Heather Bree (blackdotbug) I read The Squirrel Mother recently, and I have Artichoke Tales (both by Megan Kelso) on my TBR pile.

Squirrel Mother is a collection of shorts. There are some excellent historical pieces in there featuring our founding fathers as you've never seen them before. There are also some interesting and sad character studies, I guess I'd call them. They are little portraits of women and girls and I sensed a theme of being hurt and feeling damaged.

Artichoke Tales comes recommended by a couple of sources and it sounds completely different than anything in The Squirrel Mother. So, I'm looking forward to it.

I love the art style. It has a sunday comics kind of feel, but more sophisticated and more emotional. Kelso is seen as an important female figure in the comics world, and I hope she does more good things.
