mdt (mdt13) | 129 comments I can't remember many details of this book but there were at least two written with the younger sister as the main character. Her or her sisters name might be DeeDee or Desiree (which I remember because at the time I thought they were very strange names). Main character was around 13 in the first book, around 15 in the second. The older sister is moody and the parents marriage is troubled. No idea what the plots of the books were beyond this, but I've been trying to recall the names of these books for years now!

Recynd | 18 comments Your posting just tickled some long-dormant part of my brain (right next to the spot where olfactory memories live)...

I'll dig the title of that book out, sooner or later!

Cheryl | 3 comments Could it be 'Deenie'?

Penny | 22 comments I wondered about "Deenie", too, but I wasn't aware of there being two books with her. (If there was a second book, I definitely want to find it!)

But the part about the moody older sister and the troubled marriage fits mdt's description perfectly. I don't remember if it took place in NYC, but since Deenie was supposed to start modeling before her scoliosis diagnosis, it could be.

BTW, if it is "Deenie," the author is Judy Blume.

Good luck, mdt!

Laura (laurahogan) | 72 comments Definitely not Deenie. You're thinking of Diary of a Frantic Kid Sister, by Hila Colman, and the sequel was called Nobody has to Be a Kid Forever, also by Hila Colman. Two of my favorite books when I was a kid. The girl's name was Sarah, and her older sister was Deedee, short for Deirdre -- she was 11 to 12 in the first book and 13 in the second.

Sorry I didn't see this request before -- I could have ended your pain sooner!
