Hi everyone,

This week we are going to mix things up a little bit. In honor of Valentine's Day, in addition to answering a couple of questions about your reading, you are going to write a love letter. This letter can be from one character to another, from you to the author, or from you to some thing (in my case I will be writing to sleep) in the book. Feel free to be as creative as you like.

Before you write your letter, please answer the following:

1. What is the book title and author of the book you are currently reading?
2. What page are you on?

In case you need a model of a love letter, here you go. Keep in mind that this is almost twice as long as what you need to write (I got a little carried away...).

Dear Sleep,

I know we haven’t had the easiest of relationships over the years. When we first met, I was just a baby. It may have taken me some time to get used to falling for you, but once I did, you and I were inseparable. You were my constant companion day and night. As a young child we spent many hours together, more than I can count. Few things could keep me from you, and I could return to you with the greatest of ease, knowing that you would be there for me when I needed you. You were gentle, comforting, and sweet.

As the years went on, I began to see less and less of you. The separation intensified when I became a teenager, and I longed for you more than anything else. So much had gotten in between us – homework, phone conversations, MTV, and, worst of all, a school day that began at 8:30 AM. Each morning I cursed my mother whose jarring cries of “Molly, get up! Get up, Molly!” severed our warm embrace. Sitting in my biology class first period all I could think of was how much I wished I could return to you.

In college we rekindled our affair. Complete independence and late classes meant that you and I could spend mornings together and rendezvous whenever and wherever we wanted – in the corner stacks of the library, on the warm grass in the campus quad, or in the darkened lecture hall, lulled by the geology professor’s soft voice.

In my early adulthood you and I had our ups and downs. A set work routine and obligations to others meant that we no longer had the freedom to be together whenever we pleased. For several years you disappeared from my life, causing me to wonder, What had I done for you to torment me this way?

The greatest hardship to our relationship yet, however, came with the arrival of someone who has won my heart and stolen me from you, perhaps indefinitely, but at least for the next 18 years. I cannot resist her tiny soft features or her effortless charms. Truly, I cannot help but devote myself fully and completely to her, even if it means sacrificing what you and I once had.

So, my sweet, sweet love Sleep, I know that you and I will reunite once again, but for now, I must surrender myself to this new love. In my heart of hearts I hope that the three of us can work things out. Know that I will miss you terribly, but that you are always on my mind.

Forever yours,
Molly Orner

Josh | 5 comments I just finished the book "The Boy in The Striped Pajamas"
Dear Lieutenant Kotler,
During the time I have spent at Out-With I have became very fond of your and all the time we spend together. I love how you make me laugh at everything and make me smile all the time.
When I moved to Out-With I didn’t want to stay here because I had no friends and back at home I did. Once I had met you that had changed my mind about straying and now I want to stay here for the rest of my life and spend the rest of my life with you, and make a family of our own. And you will keep rising in the ranks of the army till you become the general and you are the most powerful person in Germany.
I know that the last relationship that you where in didn’t end well for you. And the last time you cared about someone they ran away and you haven’t heard from them in many years. I am very sorry that you had to go though that all by your self and I cannot start to imagine how hard that must be for you.
I promise not to go any were and stand by you though the good and the bad. I promise to have the best time your life with you. And when you get old I promise to remember all the good times we had together for the both of us. I want to spend the rest of my life of my life with you.

Annie | 7 comments I am really close to being done with my current book, Before I Die by Jenny Downham. I am on page 145.

Dear Tessa,

When I first layed eyes on you, I automatically felt some sort of connection to you. You asked me to burn your belongings and I was not sure why. I thought you broke up with an ex or something. Then when you fainted right before my eyes, I realized something wasn't right. I don't know what you did, but it feels like you cast some love spell upon me because I have never felt this way about anyone in my life. When I later learned that you had cancer and you wouldn't be alive for much longer, I figured, why would I get myself involved with someone like that? What's the point? Falling in love with someone is one thing, and losing them is on a whole other level. I'm more afraid of losing you completely than feeling the pain of heartbreak.
I now know what I want to do and what I want to do is stay with you by your side until you are taken away from me. I want to be there when you feel sick and tired. I want to be with you when you don't want to go out and stay in bed all day. I want to be with you and hold your hand when you're at the doctor's. I want to make this work because I want you; I want all of you, and nothing can change that. I love you and everyday I grow deeper and deeper in love with you. I just wish everyday could last a little longer, or I can freeze time and stay with you forever.

Love, Adam

Sirague | 6 comments Yo Ms. Orner I am currently reading The Exception to the Rulers by Amy Goodman except for the exception (no pun intended) of Friday when I read Maus by Art Spiegelman. I am currently on page 78 of The Exception to the Rulers and page 10 of Maus but I don’t plan on continuing on reading it in class.

Dear Money,

I hold you above all else, I love you more then I love myself. You cause me to be the man I never thought I could be, whether that would be in the shape of greed or feeble gallantry. Id sell out my own father to get another dollar if it would make me more of a, what do you gangsters call it, a baller? Id trade my nations secrets for you just to be with, id give up office and when they ask why, ill plead the fifth. Id quit my deals with Saudi nation, Id get rid of the Bush/Cheney administration to get closer in our relations. All this is is me putting my feelings on the line, its fastamagorical that it came out in a rhyme this time. How could I be a poet and not know it and show it. Money where have you been, thanks to you my new best friend is Benjamin Franklin.

So I really like hope you like my poem I wrote for you because I totally like think your awesome and stuff. I also wish that we could be married but its whatever. But ya, like I love Money

Yours Truly,

Condoleezza Rice

Ray Mullin | 5 comments I am reading Lady Sings the Blues, by Billy Holiday and William Dufty. I am currently on around page 135.

Dear Billie Holiday, you’re quite the woman to boot. My ears become acute, as soon as your voice shines and salutes, among the horn toots and fine flutes. You’ve come past substances malign, I’d say your doing sublime, don’t you know that your enshrined forever in time, as the astute blues singer resolute and undisputed, beyond the dilute, the Strange Fruit (this is a song reference), and the mainstream that now pollutes, and never to be uprooted. A lone woman with troubles to share but with no one to hear it, never the less in rose the powerful presence of your spirit. Passed away, but left an essence to remain true, long live the lady who once sang the blues.

Happy Valentines Day

message 8: by Konrad (new)

Konrad Kubicki | 6 comments I am still reading the book The Deep by Peter Benchley and I am currently on page 125.

Dear Music,

It's been only 4 minutes since I spent time with you and I miss you. I may not see you, but you get me to use all of the parts of my brain at the same time. I find you interesting most of the time, but other times completely uninteresting and boring.

I don't like it when you make yourself popular and a money-making machine. You shouldn't be like that. You should be unique and rich with emotion. You don't always have to be happy. You don't even have to be smart. You just have to be there for me 24/7, and you are.

I have no idea how you make me laugh, smile, cry, sleep, or give me energy. I prefer you over every other drug, and you are the only one that leaves me feeling like I'm top of the world.

I do care what you are made out of, unless being overproduced and yucky. I love when you include good rhythm, bass, guitar, keyboards, melody. You don't have to have any lyrics to impress me. Actually, half the time, I'm in the mood for something that can emotionally strike me without having words.

I just want you to be my valentine. Screw people, they don't last, but you do. You always will. And that's why I love you.

-Konrad

Dear Anne Frank :)
You have inspired me to become a stronger woman with your stories that have a real meaning of life. I know that you have been going through alot but things only happend for a reason and they can change for the better or for worse. You are a loveable young girl with a mind opend and set to do whatever is infront of her, but let me tell you one thing Anne Frank theres only one destiny that would change your life and you don't always have to relay on it because it might not treat you right. Theres one thing I need to ask you before im done with this letter but have you ever been afraid of the monster that carries guns everywhere and that treats your people like if there were less?. Your answer is the only key to the pass that I would like to go on and try to explored because I have no idea if you ever been in love.. Every girl falls in love but Anne Frank on a time of war did you ever found the one that you loved and did not wanted to let them go?. Well the only thing that I will tell you Anne is If you find the right guy in a time like that where explosions and guns became the mans best object but did a woman became their own treasure? Only you will know Anne Frank.. Only you will know.
sincerly <3 Your Friend Maria :)

Tyara Walker | 6 comments I just started a new book called Perfect by Natasha Friend. I am currently on page 98.

Dear Belly,
Although you are a couple years younger than me, you have so far taught me how to cope with deaths within my family, to keep your friends close, and the best of all: how to have self confidence. so far, we have a lot in common. Reading your book has also opened up to my eyes to many resolutions to problems that I actually have in life, at the moment. Everything in life happens for a reason and you just got to keep your head up high and hope for the better, not the worst. Belly, you see, if I was able to meet you, we could get through our problems together because me and you are so alike in many ways. Except I don’t have any eating high tension eating disorders. I hope you soon stop that, as to it is very unhealthy and will make you sick. I know you’re going through a hard time right now, but there are other ways you can take care of it. I hope your this moment of horrendous pain in you and your family’s life will soon hit a dead end and you all will begin to start a fresh, new joyous, loving family.
Best of wishes 

Sincerely Your Friend,

Dear Renier Laroche,

Or my dear Ren. Ren I know being in love can falter your senses but you make me do the same. I see you with broad shoulders, sandy hair and beautiful eyes. How my hearts skips a step when you give a glance in my direction. Though you make me melt in your presence I always have enough will to make me get closer to you. I am in love with you. With the way you know me and acknowledge me with those sweet nicknames. I love how you know how to take control when it is needed and to be strong and brave. I know you have some glitches but who doesn’t, I know for a fact that I may be a whole glitch itself.

Nancy | 3 comments Dear ___________
I don't know how to tell you this, but I love you. Three letters seem so little to me to express the feelings and convulsions my inside has when I'm near you, touching you. It hurts me a lot to admit I do use you, but you'll understand someday why I make the choices I do. The other day I saw you get tore up, I almost cries, and could've put my life at risk for you. It was worst then the last time I lost you, I was so angry, so many feelings and desperation were going through me... I just can't live without you, I wouldn't be surprised if someone else is also in love with you. You give me everything I have, you give me the motivation to go to school, and even get up in the morning, or stay out late. When I touch you, I smile, and it sounds weird, but I could touch and caress you all day. I miss you so much. It's been so long since we've been been together, and I can't stand it any longer. I need you, my heart, body and soul, needs you. Only you can bring true happiness into my life, only you. A love like mine for you is pure. Come back soon, Money. :P

Sincerely, with all my heart, Nancy

Im on page 219, yippie. Memoirs of a Geisha. I really wanted to write how the boy feelas about the girl, but it got deleted or didnt post for some reason, so i did it again, about my true love.

so i will simple say i miss you and the way you made me laugh.
With out you i feel alone, distanced from your love, It's as if I'v lost my family and am numbed up full of drugs. with out you, by my side, almost all fire has left my eye's... but a flicker that dreams of you. For now you know, yes now you know and finally it's been let out. No matter how long my words have to travel the well reach you with out a doubt. I will cross oceans, deserts, go to the depths of a great volcano. If only to bring you my love. it is yours to take... it has always been yours.
Dear friend, i wanted to say i love you, but you already know that. So now here, so far away, what i am trying to say is... I'm in love with you.
