Nice to meet you!

Can you be a bit more specific.... Foreign aid in what context?

Namaste

Kevin

Kevin! Nice to meet you too!

Specifically...specifically...well, that is a great question...I am possibly looking for critiques on US foreign aid to developing countries (past and present - such as what exactly happened with the Marshall Plan and why does the US think it was such a great experiment that they keep doing it everywhere else)...or even China's foreign aid to Africa and how that has been organized....

So...yeah. That? Is that clear. I feel like I am being unclear....

Kevin (kevindv) | 6 comments Hi loki,

There are a number of books on the history of the Marshall plan and on its impact on Europe and the US. Best I could suggest is hit Amazon and read the reviews as far as history is concerned.

for Chinas interest in Africa- I would suggest The Dragon's Gift The Real Story of China in Africa by
Deborah Brautigam.

I hope that helps....

ps trying to remember a book I read last year- about living in Europe vs US - written by an Accountant of all people- good read ... it mention most of the current European business practices that are decried as socialist where actually put in place by the US and UK after ww ii through the Marshall plan.... seems we didn't listen to our own good sense in building sustainable business climates...

Kevin (kevindv) | 6 comments HI Loki,

I remembered that book finally - Were You Born on the Wrong Continent? : How the European Model Can Help You Get a Life by: Thomas Geoghegan

good read on how the Marshall plan created the business climate of today in Europe and how it is more in line with what we called the American dream at th end of WWii then our current us economic and business environment.

Ah! That is what I am looking for...commentary on the Marshall plan! Thank you. I will look these books up at the bookstore next time I am in the States!

If you need me to pick these up for you and mail them let me know...

Ah! Thank you so much. I actually just sent out an email asking a few of my in-country PCV friends to see if they have any of these books. For some reason, PCVs carry a ton of non-fiction on us when we enter a country :) Also, I think a few people are working up to taking the State exam (for Foreign Service), which may work in my favor!

The even better news is that I should be going home for a month soon that I plan to hit up the used book stores in Anchorage to find everything my heart has desired (and I want to buy a Nook!)

That is probably more information than you needed...
