Stormi (StormReads) (bmreviewsohmy) LOL, when you get a whole group of you ganging up on you, you just can't help but at least give the books a try..LOL Though I have yet to read Melina Marchetta or Patrick Ness (because i have to many books) I am thinking I should at least take a trip to my library and see if they have any to at least try one in between my massive TBR Pile..hehehe :)

message 6602: by Jamie (new)

Jamie (bookworm20) | 67 comments What is the Chaos Walking series actually about...? I read the synopsis, but I was still on the skeptical side about it...lol HEEEEELP!

message 6603: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) It's really hard to explain. I hate telling people what it's about because they give me that 'are you kidding' look.

It takes place in the future where settlers have moved onto another planet. This planet has 'noise', basically you can hear what every male creature thinks. The story is that the 'noise' has killed off all females, and Todd the Protag finds what he believes is the last girl on the planet.

I'm not going to say too much more because I don't want to give anything away. It's Dystopian so it's got the bad futuristic government aspect.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Chaos Walking is a VERY hard series to explain without spoiling anything.

A lot of it's about Todd's struggles to stay "good" and true to himself despite overwhelming societal pressure.

Seriously how do you explain a series like Chaos Walking? Its so deep. How many books deal with the nature of humanity and evil so well in a YA setting?

message 6605: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Hahahaha! Sorry... I'm fast on the fingers and not at work so I have time on my hands.

It's Buffy and Goodreads for me right now.

message 6606: by Jamie (new)

Jamie (bookworm20) | 67 comments hmm from your description it sounds good so far!

Exactly, and when i say that it's on another planet and the 'noise' I usually get smirks like I'm talking crazy.

Nikki (aka Quinn) | 69 comments You guys are getting me soo excited to read Chaos books!!

message 6609: by Jamie (new)

Jamie (bookworm20) | 67 comments Thanks guys! I think this is going to the top of my reading pile. Right after The Piper's Son! Hehe

Oh and after The Iron Queen. I want to finish that series before I start ANOTHER one :-p

As one Jaimie to another Jamie - read all of Melina M. I have read Finnikin of the Rock (Lumatere, #1) by Melina Marchetta Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta On the Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta and they were all fantastic. you can always trust a Jaimie!

message 6611: by Jamie (new)

Jamie (bookworm20) | 67 comments AHAHAHAHA Amen to that! I have read Finnikin of the Rock though, it was a pretty good book. I am reading Francesca as we speak. :-D

message 6612: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I have to read Francesca still, I'll be doing that probably next week. Then I'll be ready for Piper's Son.

message 6613: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Wow you people have been busy! I love all the Marchetta and Ness talk. They are both awesome! Isn't it strange how with both The Knife of Never Letting Go and Jellicoe Road many of us had similar reactions to stop reading at first, but pushed through and found out how amazing they were?

message 6614: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) That is interesting, it just shows that the great things in life take a bit of work, lol.

message 6615: by Jamie (new)

Jamie (bookworm20) | 67 comments I'll clink my glass to that! Cheers!

message 6616: by Jill (new)

Jill | 68 comments Finished A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness and I thought it was great. A book to sink your teeth into...no pun intended. Clearly book one in a series. Almost done with Faefever and I am really glad I have the next two here. Something tells me I will finish the series this weekend.

message 6617: by Jamie (new)

Jamie (bookworm20) | 67 comments I'm depressed now....I didn't realize that The Piper's Son doesn't come out almost TWO WEEKS! I didn't know I had to wait THAT long. *sits in a corner and pouts*

Hmm A Discovery of Witches sounds interesting too! I should put that in my TBR pile.

message 6618: by Jamie (new)

Jamie (bookworm20) | 67 comments *FOR almost...hehe don't mind me.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I thought it was March 1! Actually that's kind of relieving because the next October Daye AND Demonglass come out March 1. I was a little worried for my brain explosions.

I just went to look it up on Barnes & Noble and it says March 8. :( AND they don't have the nookbook! I've been clicking the "Ask publisher for ebook version" button over and over and over lol!

October Daye? I haven't heard of that one....

Yay Demonglass!!!! I looove Hex Hall. Rachel Hawkins cracks me up. =)

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments They're fun but not YA. Urban fantasy, by Seanan McGuire. I like the series more than I thought I did at first. Which is good, I'd rather grow into a series than grow out of it.

Rachel Hawkins is SO FUN to follow on twitter. One day her and another writer proposed a day to do fake britneyspears tweets. She's got such a wacky sense of humor.

message 6624: by [deleted user] (new)

I follow her on twitter, too! She is awesome. Have you read her blog at all? I discovered it at work one day & basically sat at my desk randomly bursting out laughing all afternoon. People probably thought I was nuts.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I discovered it when she tweeted about the FANTABULOUSLY HORRIBLE Bulgarian cover. How can something be so wrong and so right? That made my day when I saw it!

So I'm a recent blog follower.

message 6626: by Takeshi (new)

Takeshi (goodreadscomUsagi) | 2 comments I finished touching spirit bear so I am now reading Sea of Monsters which is part of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians.

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments All this talk about Melina reminded me that I haven't ordered the book yet. I better get on that so Amazon can get it to me at some point in March.

I rarely buy what I haven't yet read, but for Melina I'll make an exception.

message 6628: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Wow, only on March 8th?! I guess that means when I'm done with Hold me closer Necromancer I'll be picking up Saving Francesca! I can't wait!!

message 6629: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Wow Carmel that conference sounds fantastic!

@Cassi, I'm loving your passion for everything marchetta and ness... i feel the same way... :)

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 325 comments I haven't read Chaos Walking series yet either. I hope to read it sometime soon. So many books I want to read!

Iron Queen is pretty high in my to-read list, is still worth reading? I stumbled upon that spoiler a while ago, the one that's making you GRRR lol.

message 6638: by Gwennie (new)

Haven't read them yet.... heard there was going to be a movie based on them though, and the series has tons of good reviews, definitely one to add to the to read list!

I'm still working on Jellicoe Road, but I have to say Chaos Walking was probably my favorite series read of 2010. I personally enjoyed it more than Hunger Games and look forward to future Patrick Ness books.

This group is (for me) the most friendly, nicest group I've ever had the pleasure of dropping random notes to!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Hmmm...nice. We got demoted to the "unattractive best friend" role.

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Jamie wrote: "Hopefully his journey as a continuation of book three! Oh I hope I hope I hope!"

That's the feelign I got when I was reading about it. I got the feeling that it would be what Ash and Puck do after the end of Iron Queen.

Yay... I can't wait to hear. And I don't stalk Melina Marchetta often. I was actually looking for the Piper's Son release date because all I remembered was that it was in March. From there I got sucked in. (It also might have had something to do with the fact that I was bored at work)

Anyway, I'm excited. Carmel, you have to let us know if she releases the title of Frio's book. We might miss it over here (then have to wait a year after the Australian release)

message 6646: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) But maybe thats my wishful thinking, because googling now I see that it could mean what happened leading up.

I don't think so though, i think it'll pick up where the last left off, just from Ashs perspective.

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments since I finished City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1) by Cassandra Clare last night I think I'm going to start Alanna The First Adventure (Song of the Lioness, #1) by Tamora Pierce tonight.

Then I just got Lover Enshrined (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #6) by J.R. Ward from the library today. I WILL catch up to you ladies eventually! I'm more than half way through the series. Then I will finally be able to visit that thread.

message 6648: by Marianne (new)

Marianne (mariiyan) | 11 comments I just finished reading Bird Song an hour ago. I'm gonna start the third installment, Black Halo, by S.L Naeole :)

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments BEWARE MAYBE VERY MINOR SWITCHED SPOILERS, NOT EVEN SURE THEY ARE ACTUALLY SPOILERS BUT YOU CAN NEVER BE TOO CAREFUL

I have a question for you peoples. I finished Switched (Trylle Trilogy, #1) by Amanda Hocking . I liked the first half, then when she spent so much time just fawning over Finn and not even THINKING about her family she supposedly love so much I got very frustrated, then there was excitement again then it ended kind of abruptly.

I'm trying to decide if I should read Torn. Is there more or less mushiness?? Also does she stop overusing the word foxy because I almost punched someone when Willa said it too? For me this book is like 3.5 star which is where I waver on whether to continue a series or not. (Give up the Ghost I would read a second, other 3.5s maybe not).

END OF NON-EXISTENT SPOILERS

Probably going to re-read Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1) by Rachel Hawkins this weekend because I'm just super excited for Demonglass (Hex Hall, #2) by Rachel Hawkins .

Ha ha ha nice to hear someone having the same issues with this book....I can tell you it does get better, still mediocre but better, the obsession with Finn lightens about halfway thru torn, there some very unexpected-ness that happens in ascend and a semi disappointing ending I would say to continue just so you can find out the unexpected-ness lol
