Aynge (ayngemac) | 1202 comments You're having a dinner party. Your swanky new teak dining table can only seat 16, so it's you and fifteen others. They can be anybody: living or dead, real or fictional.

Who's on your guest list?

George Washington
Indiana Jones
Elvis Cole (not Joe Pike since he barely speaks)
Bertie Wooster
Special Agent Fox Mulder, FBI
Special Agent Dana Scully, FBI
Special Agent Aloysius Pendergast, FBI
Alton Brown (he can help me cook)
Dave Barry
Michael Crichton (I wanted to marry him once)
Dennis Prager
Sheldon Cooper, BS, MS, MA, PhD, ScD
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
John Watson, MD

Oh, dang it. I forgot about Cary Grant. I gotta fit him in someplace... And Albert Einstein, Ben Franklin, and Leonardo Da Vinci...

Phil | 11694 comments Fifteen is about twelve too many for me to enjoy.

I'll invite Spenser (from "Spenser for Hire"), a young Michael Palin, and Walt Disney. Oh, if there's room for one more I'd like Berke Brethed to join us, too.

message 3: by Terri (new)

Terri R | 17 comments Paul McCartney
John Lennon
George Harrison (had to cut Ringo, I don't think he's much of a talker)
Robert Morrow, the author not the actor
My two sons (Jeremy and Tim)- they'd kill me if they didn't get to meet Lennon
Katherine Hepburn
Grace Kelly
Betty Davis
Robert Redford (to talk about Sundance)
John Kennedy
Bobby Kennedy
Captain Kirk
Captain Picard
Captain Benjamin Sisko

I could use a couple of extra folder chairs!

message 4: by Helena (new)

Helena | 1058 comments I would definitely need a celebrity chef. I don't know if I could cook for that many.

1. Curtis Stone
2. Oscar Wilde
3. Mark Twain
4. Ambrose Bierce
5. Marilyn Monroe
6. Cormac McCarthy
7. Queen Elizabeth I
8. Freida Simms
9. My great grandmother
10. Dennis Leary
11. Cleopatra
12. Dionysus (he's always fun)
13. Chronos (speed it up or slow it down, depending on how much fun you're having)
14. Leonard Cohen
15. Jason Bourne (he can help keep the peace)

Aynge (ayngemac) | 1202 comments I'd never let a Borgia in my house. Or a Kardashian.

Aynge (ayngemac) | 1202 comments Really? I thought she was a sadist. And didn't she poison people?

message 7: by Jammies (last edited Jan 27, 2011 07:48AM) (new)

Jammies Damnit, Aynge, there's more than 15 TC'ers I'd invite to my dream dinner! Not to mention all my perfume board friends, other GR friends, and my long-distance MSer friends. But here's my list of people who can sit at the table while everyone else has to balance plates on their laps:

1. Bill Maher
2. Oliver Platt
3. Carla from Top Chef
4. & 5. Beth and Ted from Black Phoenix
6. Terry Pratchett
7. Glen Cook
8. Lindsey Davis
9. Steven Saylor
10. Cherie Priest
11. Laura Ann Gilman
12. & 13. Demian from TWoP and his imaginary gay dragon Raoul
14. & 15. Tom and Lorenzo from Project Rungay.

And I'm with Barb--lots of booze and silly games.

Oh Christ no...

Dr. Detroit | 6031 comments Barb wrote: "Once the food is gone, I want to have a good-drunken-fun-time."

And God knows Leonard Cohen and Tori Amos would tear that shit up!

Rebecca White (rebecca_white) | 1028 comments Honestly, the dinner party I would most like to have is a collection of people I've become close to on-line from various forums. Them, plus my boyfriend. Some of them know each other already, but for the rest I would be so delighted watching them meet. All being friends to me, I know they would have so much to say to each other. Wow, it would be great!

I actually have this fantasy all the time.

And I love cooking for people, so I'd do all that myself.

message 11: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 1107 comments Honestly, my whole family would be there, damn the 16-people limit. But because this thread is fun, I'll just put names of famous people.

1. Neil Gaiman
2. Skulduggery Pleasant & Valkyrie (they come together, so one of them has to stand)
3. Matthew Bomer (he is nice to look at)
4. Audrey Hepburn (she seems so kindly)
5. Leonardo di Caprio (he looks smart)
6. Tina Fey (she IS smart. And funny)
7. Hugh Laurie (He was a comedian before a grouch)
8. James McAvoy (I'd like to stare at his eyes)
9. Steve Carrell
10. Stephen Colbert
11. Michael MacDonald
12. Jack Sparrow
13. John Cleese
14. David Tennant (DOCTAH! Who?)
15. Sandra Bullock (I heard her Oscar speech, and she's queen of Romcom)

Laughter all night long, and none of us would have to be remotely high on anything!

message 12: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4728 comments 1. Professor Moriarty
2. Sherlock Holmes
3. Betty Boop
4. Betty Paige
5. Leonardo da Vinci
6. Rembrandt van Rijn
7. Leadbelly
8. Don Draper
9. Peter Falk
10. Alfred Hitchcock
11. Paris Hilton
12. Simone de Beauvoir
13. Michelle Obama
14. Bo, the White House dog
15. Elvis

message 13: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 1107 comments Really? Paris Hilton?

message 14: by Jonathan (last edited Jan 27, 2011 06:51AM) (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4728 comments Yes. I would be curious to hear the conversation between her and Simone de Beauvoir. Similar to the Holmes and Moriarty pairing. Of course, Don Draper and Elvis would probably enjoy chatting with PH as well.

message 15: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 1107 comments Haha! I can imagine the tension... Paris would frustrate the heck out of Simone, and Simone would make her cry. Holmes would engage in a battle of wit with Moriarty, and then next thing you know, one of em has poisoned everything or something.

message 16: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4728 comments Very likely. And unfortunately Elvis and Bo both have trouble with appetite control.

message 17: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 1107 comments Better order a big spread, and back-up. XD

Michael Christiane Amanpour
Drew Barrymore
Greta Brawner

message 30: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I don't like dinner parties. Can I just hang out with them in the backyard on a summer night?

message 31: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I also agree that fifteen is too many people.

message 32: by janine (new)

janine | 7715 comments fifteen is too many for me too. i'd rather meet them one at a time (and i'm not saying that because i'm only inviting hot guys, i haven't made a list yet).

message 33: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6485 comments I'm going to hang out with RA in the backyard.

message 34: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Depends on how you define "wrong"...

Ok, if we're confessing, my first impulsive response was "I'd invite the Victoria Secret models from those commercials".

message 35: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments And Jim, come on over, I owe you a six pack, and I at least want to drink some of it...:)
