Gabriella (stardust_126) Do you guys like any religious music? Which musicians do you like? Some of the ones I like are Sixpence None the Richer and Ginny Owens.

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 297 comments I don't listen to much my specifically religious groups, but as a fan of musical theatre, I like several songs that deal with religion and faith. Two that I really love are "Du Måste Finnas"/ "(You Have to be There)" and "Spark of Creation".

"Du Måste Finnas"/ "(You Have to be There)"
Swedish with English subtitles (WATCH THIS VERSION! THE EMOTIONS IN THIS ONE ARE SO AMAZINGLY AND STUNNINGLY INTENSE!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vk76_i...
Enlgish (this version is not as intense, but the end is still fantastic...if you are too lazy to watch the Swedish, at least watch the last minute or so of this)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34vWDb...

In this song, the title character Kristina, a Swedish immigrant in the 1800s, begins doubting her religion for the first time in her life. Throughout her life, she has viewed all of her hardships, from the death of her child to being forced to leave her home, as part of God's will. Now, after a violent miscarriage, she learns that another pregnancy will kill her. This causes her to doubt the existence of God for the first time in her life.

Honestly, it is one of my favorite songs of all time. Much of the song reflects my own feelings, and it is so heartbreaking and beautiful and full of emotion. I love it. WATCH IT.

"Spark of Creation"

I honestly can't speak to the context behind this song, except for the fact that it is sung from Eve's perspective.

Some other good songs are "Sabbath Prayer" and "Miracle of Miracles" and "Matchmaker" (which is more about arranged marriage in Jewish culture rather than the religion itself) from Fiddler on the Roof.

Miracle of Miracles (warning: kind of cartoonish cheesiness, in a sweet and adorable way): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hszJv-...

Matchmaker (five sisters think about their future matches, and the fact that the town matchmaker can pretty much decide their fate): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59Hj7b...

Sabbath Prayer (pretty self-explanatory): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnaZqH...

Ick. I used to like them :P

I actually don't mind listening to church music when the voices are good :P I just ignore the lyrics.

Gabriella (stardust_126) These are the lyrics of one of the songs that I like by Sixpence None the Richer, it's called I Can't Explain.

i've wrapped myself up
in a universe again
and let the darkness quell
my matchflame confidence
and unwillingly i hide
the lever i must find
to release the deep
the tears withheld inside
but i can't explain
i can't make sense of the
things i'm saying
the crystal tears
are sliding down again
your moonlit cheeks
and soaking silken lips
if this pain is so real
there's a hand that someday must heal
and give us the words
that time steals and won't let us say

That swedish musical really sounds sad, I wish my youtube was working right

Rachel (aka. Kaiserin Sisi) (looney-lovegood) | 297 comments Sorry that youtube isn't working for you. It's an extremely powerful song. Definitely one of my favorite solos of all time. It's one of the few solos that I would describe as "epic".
