I'm not even gonna comment after that last comment. No words describe my shock.

Is it fair to say that I fell asleep during Twilight's fight scenes that rarely existed, and were so horribly written it made Barney seem like an action show. Now a book that has some of the best fight scenes in it is Game of Thrones and the rest of the Song of Ice and Fire series...read those books.
Like the Twilight characters...they were one dimensional. You can't really judge book characters that well with just one book in mind. Or at least that's how I put it. And they had character if ya kept on reading the books. After 2 it got so much better. Meh, I should just stop trying...not gonna get through.

I'm not even going to start talking about the ugly guys that are in HP!

“Harry Potter is about confronting fears, finding inner strength and doing what is right in the face of adversity. Twilight is about how important it is to have a boyfriend.”― Stephen King

first of all Twilight is a almost strictly Romance while Harry Potter is almost strictly Adventure/Fantasy. Twilight attracted so many readers because of the amazingly hott and perfect guy, and the girl that most of us girls can relate to in some way or another, but Harry Potter is an amazing showcase of JK Rowling's imagination and i believe it holds a wider audience. The depth of each book and character, the amazing plot that i could never have guessed before reading it. It is an amazing work of genius. Yet i still do not believe you should compare the two. They are so different in every way..
I still can't believe the idea about Edward and Jacob taking their shirts off blah blah is better than that epic fight in the last book of Harry Potter. Now watching the Twilight movies...Edward was just to ehhhh not appealing what-so-ever. Of course I'm talking about the movies in that respect, and also it's just guys taking their shirts off...damn I see that everyday due to my brother and his friends...it's nothing special. XD
Cannot keep comparing these 2!!!! They are 2 different genres. Both equally fantastic in their own rights.

Once again...people will not admit it...they have their opinions, and will stick to it. I think HP is better by yards, and that is my opinion, and it shall never change. Twilight wasn't torture to read...I didn't have to use my brain to read it.

Oh oh oh can I join the odd () and smiles and coughing. I'll say Harry Potter (wink) I shouldn't wink...winking is seriously creepy....
Alright, first off, everyone knows Harry Potter is better than Twilight, that's just fact. The depth of the plot in Harry Potter is awe inspiring. Twilight's plot lacked any trace of foresight and it was obvious by the way Stephanie Meyer just threw random bits of information at you as they were needed. All of the characters in Harry Potter had tangible personalities, those of Twilight were flat, shallow and one-sided. J.K. Rowling created an entirely new world hidden behind the thin veils of our own, crafting a masterpice with her imagination. Stephanie Meyer just injected myth into our reality, adding fluff to what already exists. As for the protagonists of each story, who should we really be comparing? Obviously Harry Potter, kind-hearted, loyal friend, brave in the face of overwhelming odds, a true hero, but then who from Twilight? The books are all written from Bella's point of view so she should be the obvious choice, yet no one is drooling over pictures of Kristen Stewart or doodling little hearts with Mrs. Bella Swan written in the center all over their notebooks no, Edward is the true star of Twilight. And honestly when standing next to such a weak-willed, shallow, one dimensional, pathetic excuse for a heroine it's not hard to outshine her. That being said, Edward has no personality either, he's just the framework of every adolescent girl's daydreams. Now the themes of each book are completely different. Harry Potter has the triumph of good over evil, true love conquers all, friendship is to be valued and treasured, power can't bring happiness, greed destroys, I could go on but I won't. Twilight's themes: teen angst, beauty is only skin deep, must I continue? Harry Potter has witches, wizards, dragons, unicorns, flying cars, three-headed dogs, shapeshifters, werewolves, boggarts, merpeople, dwarves, centaurs, giants, basilisks, hippogriffs, thestrals, elves, phoenixs, qudditch, and a willow tree with a nasty temper. Twilight has shapeshifters and "vegitarian" vampires who sparkle, absoutely cringe-worthy. As for the overall writing quality of the two authors, I repeat QUALITY, not content, Stephanie Meyer does have an aptitude for piecing together words. Still not truely comparable to J.K. Rowling anyways. And that was my two cents on this, dare I call it a debate? Maybe a pointless argument on the side of all the Twilight fans and the defense of a beloved book on that of Harry Potter's.

Most of what you said were opinions so just step off your high horse already.
Twi characters are probably archetypes but so were the Harry Potter characters as far as I could tell ("the brave hero", "the brains", "the goofy sidekick").
The story focused on Bella's journey. Edward is defined through Bella’s POV. Bella is the protagonist of her story, which means all other characters take a subservient role to her, even Edward. Fangirls focus on Edward because it's hype, that's that way of the fandoms.
Twilight may have focused on the romance but there's more to it than that. People ignore that it was also about friendship, family, making choices, loyalty, struggling with your own nature, making mistakes, learning from mistakes... etc, etc.
I'm not looking to change your mind but I'm just letting you know that people will have their own opinions and preferences.
I guess if Twilight in some way was in written in the 3rd person idea, then maybe just maybe it would have the same quality. Yeah 1st person is hard to write in...very hard, so I give kudos to Meyer for making a world wide bestseller with some of the hardest techniques in writing. The only problem I had with Bella was that she was flawless (klutz not being a good flaw) and she was a Mary-Sue to me. Those types of book characters annoy me, and I try hard with my writing/books that I don't make a character like Bella.

Robert Pattinson."
And he looked better as Cedric... Although I think that the debate in this case is over the books, not the movies.
Harry Potter is wonderful collection of stories that defined a generation.
Twilight is a horribly written story whose success shows that we have a bigger issue of readers not being able to recognize literature.
In my mind there is no question, Harry Potter is infinitely better!
Eva wrote: "Twilight is a horribly written story whose success shows that we have a bigger issue of readers not being able to recognize literature."Not everything I read has to be literature. It's not fair to assume all twilight fans consider it as such or that they can't recognize and appreciate good literature.
I've been told that Twilight is classified as a page-turner. But whatever it's classified as, a lot of people enjoy the books (including myself).

THANK YOU! Opinions stated as fact annoy me.
Twilight is pure genius. It is a marvel of literary fiction. It has inspired millions of children to read and enchanted so many people worldwide. Twilight is great because the characters resemble fully imagined people who adapt to their circumstances. Twilight is also a successful film franchise. I could go on forever about Twilight, but instead...Let's revise this:

Harry Potter all the way. The deathly hallows has more romance, action, daring, and power on it's own than all three twilight books together.
I too have heard this ludicrous comment made several times - people comparing Twilight to Harry Potter, as though they belong in the same league at all. I didn't hate Twilight - in fact I freely admit to enjoying books number 1 and 3. They do not touch Harry Potter though - HP wins in every way - character, plot line, style of writing... hearing people compare the two makes me like Twilight less.
Meyer didn't even catch up with The Host...that book made me so angry I threw it across my room. That book is a major insult to sci-fi.

But the easiest to mess up as well.
I think Meyer did a okay job. Beautiful prose in parts, terrible in others.
Well to me...I'm a huge sci-fi nerd, and it grated against the nerdy part of me. It put to shame that genre, since sci-fi is suppose to be a really in depth genre. That book shouldn't be in the same genre as Dune, or Ender's Game. That's just my opinion.

Haha, I've only seen it recently.
I cannot believe these two are being compared. I feel like banging my head on the wall. Harry Potter is and always will be the best.
Fatima wrote: "I cannot believe these two are being compared. I feel like banging my head on the wall. Harry Potter is and always will be the best."NOT TRUE!
So...I heard SMeyer is writing a dark fantasy novel. Anger does not describe my feelings that well for this.
Natalie wrote: "So...I heard SMeyer is writing a dark fantasy novel. Anger does not describe my feelings that well for this."I don't understand...what are you angry about?
Ehhh long story. Hey I don't like her, and dark fantasy is something I love a lot. One is A Game of Thrones, and SMeyer will never be in the same league as that series ever.
Harry Potter, clearly better. J.K. Rowling is a phenomenal writer and that has been recognized numerous times. As for Stephanie Meyer, she just stole Anne Rice's and every other great vampire writer before her's idea. Not to mention people that Twilight has the same EXACT plot of Romeo and Juliet. Which I hated. But I can at least say that Shakespear was a better writer. And as for J.K. Rowling and Stephanie Meyer in conclusion, they are both on different ranks as far as who's better. J.K. Rowling obviously is ten steps ahead of Meyer in many ways.
Harry Potter is 10000000000000000000000000000000000x better than twilight for numerous reasons...1.) Meyer failed to realize that men are not referred to as "beautiful". No male character was described as beautiful in Harry Potter.
2.)J.K. Rowling is not afraid to kill her characters. This sounds awful, but in reality it makes for a more emotional, interesting book.
3.) "A dream inspired me to write Twilight." -Stephanie Meyer
"It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live." -Albus Dumbledore.
The genius has spoken.
4.) Harry didn't fall in love with Ginny because she was perfect or beautiful.
5.) Harry didn't need to be hot for people to like him. But Twilight fans must constantly be reminded every two pages that Edward is hot.
6.) Harry Potter titles make sense. How did Meyer come up with her titles? Did she pull them out of her butt?
7.) Harry Potter doesn't advertise suicide.
8.) In Harry Potter, snakes talk.
9.) Meyer gave away the ENTIRE plot of the book by putting the quote on the back of the book. Really, all you need to do is read the back and that's all you need to know about Twilight.
10.) One character in Harry Potter has more complexity than ALL of the Twilight characters put together.
11.) Voldemort is so evil that people do not speak his name. Can't say the same for the Volturi.
12.) Twilight teaches kids that abusiveness is "selflessness".
13.) Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry v. Forks High School. where would you rather go?
14.) Ginny understood that Harry needed to fight Voldemort, and accepted it. Bella made a fuss and didn't let Edward protect the town against a swarm of vampires. Selfish jerk.
15.) Hermione is always shown studying or reading and getting top marks in all her classes. Bella somehow manages to pass all of her classes without doing any homework. Hmmm...
16.) Harry is not a stalker. He has never watched Ginny in her sleep.
17.) Bella, after having NO experience in relationships, decides that the first handsome boy she meets is her soul mate. Harry, after a brief period with Cho Chang, falls for his best friend's sister, who also happens to be his friend as well.
18.) The characters have more colorful names, i.e. Luna Lovegood, Albus Dumbledore, and Viktor Krum v. Mike, Angela, and Jessica.
19.) Look at the school bullies: Draco Malfoy and Lauren. All Lauren really does is make faces at Bella and rolls her eyes. Draco freaking tries to kill Harry. Winner? Mmmmm, I'm thinking Draco.
20.) Harry is loyal to his friends. Bella abandons her's when she meets "the love of her existance".
21.) Quidditch v. Baseball. You decide.
22.) Bella gets everything she wants. Harry and his friends must make sacrifices.
23.) Rowling does not describe the perfect man to be possessive, abusive, over-protective or stalker-like.
24.) Robert Pattinson plays a better character in Harry Potter than Twilight. (He has admitted that he, too, does not like Edward.)
25.) There is actually humor in Harry Potter.
26.) Rowling's characters have believable flaws.
27.) Meyer's werewolves are wimps. Fenrir Greyback? That's a real werewolf.
28.) Harry, Ron, and Hermione mature as the books progressed. Bella, if possible, became more childish.
29.) What scares you more, LORD VOLDEMORT or James?
30.) The Harry Potter series ended in a more realistic way. What I mean was, there were casualties. Fred died, George got his ear cut off; Dumbledore and Sirius died. Somehow, in the Twilight series, Bella ended up with everything she could have wanted - a perfect life.
I think I have proven my point. Harry Potter is better than Twilight.
