Twilight v. Harry Potter?

Miranda Knowles Harry Potter is far above the league of Twilight. J.K created a whole new world. Her characters have more depth, her writing far surpasses Meyer, and the over all concept is way beyond Meyers. To compare the two as equal is shameful!

Cori J.K. Rowling story surpasses Stephenie Meyer's any day. J.K. Rowling created a world within a world, a story about love, friendship, betrayal, the compliments could go on forever, really. Harry taught us about the power of love and friendship while Bella was busy swooning over Edward and teaching girls we are nothing without a man. Sure, Twilight is a good story, I'm not ripping on it, but HP has just so much more depth, so much more meaning.

J.K. Rowling is our queen
Weasley is our king
Snape is our prince <3

Lorea twilight all the way. enough said.

Kristen J.K. Rowling has an obviously greater talent for writing, character development, and plot; but Stephanie Meyer knows how to pull heartstrings.

Nat Let's just not even compare the series anymore...since they're totally different on subject, writing, and characters.

M2 Danielle I love twilight, but I think Harry Potter is a better story to it!

Twilight > Lucky.

message 1164: by S.L.J. (new) - rated it 2 stars

S.L.J. The juggernaut that is HP has crushed everything that came b4 it. In terms of Box-office/book sales, Twilight doesn't even come close.

In terms of actual story and talent, again, Twilight doesn't even come close.

I think the Avengers and Dark Night Rises are the only things that will b able to maybe stand against HP's box-office throne.

message 1165: by Lily (new) - rated it 3 stars

Lily Im going with Harry Potter on this one. When I read the Twilight series, it was alright. It got my attention, because what girl doesnt want two guys throwing themselves at her?! But when I compare it to something like Harry Potter, I dont feel Twilight has the depth that Harry Potter does. And im not going to lie, I feel the movies put Twilight in an even worse light for me. Horrible actors and such (will give points to Jacob though haha he is attractive). All in all, I feel you get alot more from Harry Potter than from Twilight

message 1166: by Tracey (new) - rated it 5 stars

Tracey Smith Both series are YA paranormal with large fan bases and high grossing movies. That's where the similarities end. Each can be appreciated in it's own right. I have not read the Harry Potter books, I have seen the movies. I enjoyed the movies but I am not a teenager and was not interested enough in the plot to want to read the books. I think I learned enough from watching the movies to be happy with what I know about that series and move on. I read the Twilight books before seeing the movies. I was given the first book by a friend and I loved it. Say what you will about poor writing, I immensely enjoyed the story and was not nit picking grammatical errors as I read. I enjoyed the books enough to want to see the movies, and although the movies have not lived up to the books in my opinion I have enjoyed them as well. The story of first love that develops in Twilight reached out to me, whereas I probably wouldn't have ever watch Harry Potter if I didn't have children to watch it with.

message 1167: by T.L. (new) - rated it 1 star

T.L. Rese is this even a competition? what's twilight got? - ridiculous wish fulfillment (ie. harlequin romance + some silly vampires). harry potter, despite wizards et al, is far more realistic in comparison. - oh yea, not to mention more imaginative, lacking the barf factor, etc.

Nat I don't know how you can live a life and not watch Harry Potter. Even my dad (who hates witchcraft and thinks it evil) has seen the HP movies, and changed his idea of wizards and such. He now loves the movies and books, and owns all of them.

Jamielyn Harry Potter and Twilight are great in their own ways.

I think they're two very different books that should not be compared. My opinion. :)

Emily So?

message 1175: by Sable (last edited Nov 19, 2011 12:12AM) (new) - rated it 1 star

Sable I find it weird how people can argue back and forth about which book is better than the other. They are both different and they both appeal to different groups of people...I mean, this is the third Twilight V.S Harry Potter thread I've seen.

message 1176: by Emily (new) - rated it 3 stars

Emily Really? I still think that Harry potter is better, but you do have a good point.

message 1177: by Sasha (new) - added it

Sasha Mangipano I don't see how the two can even be compared! They are not even in the same context! I love them both! My world is big enough for vampires and wizards!

message 1189: by Cookie (new) - rated it 4 stars

Cookie Harry Otter is a work of art. JK Rowling's words painted pictures in my head making me fall in love with the series. The characters depths and dimensions were so thought out and perfected. Also the romance throughout the book with Ron and Hermione, and Harry and Ginny, those are the romances I love. There are two sides to the romance. The action and suspense in the book and movie was played out well and the book actually caused me to cry on more than one occasion.
Now before I start talking about twilight, I need to make it clear that this was one of my favorite series...at first. The whole romance was sweet and the action was...fun?. But other than that...what? No depth to the characters, no emotions, an a lot of the time, I was bored. I only need one word to sum up why this book sold so well. Edward. During New Moon, when Edward left, I was bored and was just continually waiting for him to return. Also, Bella's character is, for lack of a better term, boring. Pretty much everything that happened was Bella is in danger and the Cullen clan has to come and save her. At some moments, SM tried making it seem like Bella was the hero, but it didn't work. Even at her last ditch effort in the last book with Bella's mind powers. Another complaint would be that the romance went to fast and left me with nothing to read except for the repeating action. As you can see, I have a lot of complaints for Twilight but my only complaint for Harry Potter is that there are ONLY seven books. Nobody should be comparing "just another novel" Twilight to the "well written and brilliant" Harry Potter. Nice try SM, but not even close.

message 1197: by Chris (new)

Chris W They are two totally different series concerning two totally different subjects, I repeat they are different stories. Neither is better than the other because they should not be compared. Twilight is a teen love story that has seen success while Harry Potter is a children/teen series that has seen a huge success one has vampires and freaky teen pregnancies the other has wizards and witches and a few baddies.

Very true. If you have something that appeals to a large audience, you'll cash in on it no doubt. But that doesn't mean it's good. It's kinda like heroine in that way. A very unhealthy addiction.

Personally, I class it a bit closer to Paris Hilton. It used to be that you got famous and successful because u had talent. Now apprently, you have talent simply because you're famous and successful.

In real life, finding true happiness can be a curse because it distracts from everything else around u.
