Manybooks The Asterix comics make fun of everyone and everything. Yes, there are aspects of the comics that are politically incorrect, but the satire, the humour, the ridicule is spread across the board (not even les Gaulois escape it). There is a huge difference between the absolutely ingenious Asterix comics and the Tintin comics, which do feature a very Euro-centric and colonial attitude. The Asterix comics ridicule everything, from war to feelings of racial superiority, the humour is sly and biting, but it is excellent and often spot-on.

Mafalda That's why I've always liked Asterix more than Tintin!

I don't think that they are racist or sexist. They poke gentle fun at the stereotypes, and never go too far. There is a new film of this book, which is very, very funny and also in "good taste" - poking affectionate fun at the Norwegians, the English and the French. The books are miniature works of art in their own way. I still chuckle at the Roman guards, Sendervictorius and Appianglorius in the English translation. the translations are very well done, even though there are a few things that don't translate very well.

Love Asterix and his friends!!!!

Lesley Arrowsmith I think they got it spot on! The obsession with tea, and tea time, the Briton who is annoyed when they mess up his front lawn - it all seems perfectly reasonable to me.
