Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Nope, but it's on my list of ones to get to this year. I have about 30 different PNR series that I was able to download for free, and this is one of them. Too bad I didn't get the same luck with historicals...ahh well.

Is your preferance to Historicals Stacia?

message 4: by Stacia (the 2010 club) (last edited Jan 16, 2011 10:44PM) (new)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Oh I have no preference. I love PNR, urban fantasy, historical, sci-fi, fantasy, etc. both in YA and adult.

I'll tend to read in spurts sometimes. Right now I'm on a PNR kick, but I plan to get back into some sci-fi's next month.

The only thing I have a semi-aversion to is contemps, and that's because I like for something in my books to be different or unreal. If the story looks really good I'll give it a go, or if it's highly recommended I'll consider it. Otherwise I leave them alone.

message 5: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I gotta say I did not like the first book at all, so I didn't continue with the series BUT I am in a serious minority. But I have an issue with alot of PNRs -- there are some I like but not alot. With this series I felt like I had read every angle of this story in another novle that had been published just a few years before #1 -- only difference was that it was all combined together in one book. But I did not continue or give it a chance to see if it got better, and it could have been my mood. I will be interested to see if you like it. There was passion, connection and hot sex. Everything else was just old for me.

Thx Regina~ I probably won't find it the same, ONLY because I don't tend to read alot of PNR~ It's a genre I am only starting to get aquainted with.

I am totally with you Stacia~ Contemp is not my fave either~ I too need the element of fantasy~ be it out oof this world or from another time~ I am not too keen on reading something that could be happening to my neighbour.

Wan (wanwaddell) | 143 comments I'm a big fan of Miss Gena. I love all the Lords and their Ladies. The books are mythology based. I love anything mythology so I love LOTU. I also love Dark Beginnings (Includes Lords of the Underworld, #0.5 & #3.5 & #4.5) by Gena Showalter . It has the .5 books and the interviews (by William) were so funny.

Can't wait fo the next books The Darkest Secret (Lords of the Underworld, #7) by Gena Showalter
and The Darkest Surrender
and The Darkest Seduction.

message 12: by Leea (new)

Ladyhawk | 381 comments I put the fist book The White Mare (Dalriada Trilogy, #1) by Jules Watson on my tbr list. Just picked up Blue Moon (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #8) by Laurell K. Hamilton and Guns, Germs and Steel by Jared Diamond for some non fiction reading. I haven't run across LOTU books, or maybe I'm not looking hard enough! LOL!
I do have Mistress of the Art of Death (Mistress of the Art of Death, #1) by Ariana Franklin on stand by. Also picked up Sepulchre (Languedoc Trilogy, #2) by Kate Mosse but it's book two so I need to go in search of book one Labyrinth (Languedoc Trilogy, #1) by Kate Mosse . Glad book buying is alive and well!!

message 15: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Ladyhawk too funny, I have Guns, Germs & Steel sitting on my nightstand, I can't wait to read it. :) And I read Labrynth years ago -- loved it. I keep meaning to read #2. Not sure how I would think now, but I loved it then. :) I am on Anita Blake #6 -- going to read that one next. I am really enjoying that series.

They are in my TBR. I will have to move them up on my list then.

message 17: by Ladyhawk (new)

Ladyhawk | 381 comments Regina, I'm on the tale end of Bloody Bones, book #5 of Anita Blake. The best one so far for me! Good to hear good things about Labrynth.

Reading the details of GG&S I will dare to recommend 1434 The Year a Magnificent Chinese Fleet Sailed to Italy and Ignited the Renaissance by Gavin Menzies just to be fair! I borrowed it from the library but had to return it before I finished it. But definitely an eye opener.

message 18: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I just finished Blood Bones too and loved it! It was the best in the series so far -- I completely agree!

Off to check out the book recommendation. :) Thanks!

I really loved the idea behind these stories... There is a love story for those who need it... ;)

I'm still waiting for the heat to turn up a notch or two though!! Does it?? Someone please tell me! This teasing is torture!

message 21: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) LOL that is actually the problem, I guess it turns into erotica without much of a storyline. Somewhere along the way Hamilton fired her personal assistant and editor (or they quit) and got some clause in her contract that she didn't require an editor -- the quality and storylines changed and it is ALL heat, but apparantly not very sexy. It confuses me, b/c in the earlier books I was desparate for sex/heat of any kind. I just wanted her to have sex with JC, geez! The end of #4 left me hopeful. And #5 there are hints. I thought the heat turned up in #6? But the transition to erotica supposedly happens somewhere between 10-12.

Also, a sidenote, I hear she hired another personal assistant, so fans are hopeful the quality of the books improves. I gues the last one was alot better than the previous 10 -- I think they are in the twenties now.

message 22: by Leea (new)

Leea Wait... not sex til book 6??? Whattt?? I was just about to start... The Darkest Night (Lords of the Underworld, #1) by Gena Showalter

sorry for the confusion Leea, we were talking about the Anita Blake series.

message 24: by Leea (new)

Leea Oh thank goodness!! I'm in need of smut right now... Thanks Regina! Is that series good (Anita Blake)?

message 25: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) It is definitely not romance. Dark urban fantasy, kind of gory but I like it so far!

message 26: by Leea (new)

Leea Thanks Regina - It sounds like nothing i've read before.

HMMMM, not sure how I feel about that!! :0) At this point I'd welcome it for a few books! I need some smut right now too! LOL

Sweetie, if you are looking for smut, we can recommend some good smut! But porn for the sake of shock value just isn't that great, in my opinion.

I am conflicted about this series. I loved her books Playing with Fire and Intertwined, but have been reading a lot of *meh* reviews. So I think I will leave them for now, and tackle more of my TBR pile!

Oh don't worry. You'll get plenty of HOT scenes from the LOTU.

message 30: by Wan (new)

Wan (wanwaddell) | 143 comments I'll read the Tale of Extraordinary Girl sometime this year as well.
Playing with Fire (Tales of an Extraordinary Girl, #1) by Gena Showalter and Twice as Hot (Tales of an Extraordinary Girl, #2) by Gena Showalter

I also love the Alien Huntress Series. They are more Sci-fi, in my opinion. They are funny and hot. LOVE THEM ALL!!!

Awaken Me Darkly (Alien Huntress, #1) by Gena Showalter Enslave Me Sweetly (Alien Huntress, #2) by Gena Showalter Savor Me Slowly (Alien Huntress, #3) by Gena Showalter Seduce the Darkness (Alien Huntress, #4) by Gena Showalter Ecstasy in Darkness (Alien Huntress, #5) by Gena Showalter Dark Taste of Rapture by Gena Showalter
