Katie (bigferret) | 45 comments 1. Witch Wolf - Winter Pennington - 193 pages

Witch Wolf by Winter Pennington

I liked the plot of the book and the main character, but the constant references to lesbianism distracted from the plot and my enjoyment of the book.

2. Ghost Country - Patrick Lee - 368 pages

Ghost Country by Patrick Lee

What struck me the most about Ghost Country was that I had no idea where the plot was headed; it was constantly twisting and turning unpredictably. The unpredictability kept me engrossed and wanting to know more. Add to this the sheer action of the book. The first chapter started with a motorcade being attacked and most of the passenger executed. How can you not get sucked in by that?

Ghost Country continues what Patrick Lee started in The Breach. Both are great books, but Ghost Country is much more satisfying in the end.

I can’t wait to see what Lee has in store next.

3. Blood Challenge - Eileen Wilks - 443 pages

Blood Challenge (World of the Lupi, #7) by Eileen Wilks

Blood Challenge was a fast paced read. In many ways it is a "middle" book meant to set the scene for the next book in the series, but I never felt like the plot of the individual book suffered to advance the overall series arc.

4. Unholy Ghosts - Stacia Kane - 339 pages

Unholy Ghosts (Downside Ghosts, #1) by Stacia Kane

I'm sure what draws a lot of people to this book is Chess Putnam an anti-hero. I wanted to like her, but her drug addiction drove me insane! She was always high and thinking about drugs. So not my thing. I liked the possibilities of a Universe where ghosts are out to get the population, but not the main character's rampant drug habit.

Katie (bigferret) | 45 comments I'm way behind on updating my list of books so this will be brief.

5. Grave Witch - Kalayna Price - 325 pages

Grave Witch (Alex Craft, #1) by Kalayna Price

Very enjoyable. Looking forward to the next book.

6. Death Most Definite - Trent Jamieson - 323 pages

Death Most Definite (Death Works, #1) by Trent Jamieson

Interesting take on life and death.

7. Bloodring - Faith Hunter - 319 pages

Bloodring A Rogue Mage Novel (Rogue Mage Novels) by Faith Hunter

Not, but my normal genre, but still good. Just not good enough to want to read more in the series.

8. A Brush of Darkness - Allison Pang - 343 pages

A Brush of Darkness (Abby Sinclair, #1) by Allison Pang

I want to really like this book, but I thought it jumped around too much.

Katie (bigferret) | 45 comments 9. Halfway Hexed - Kimberly Frost - 324 pages

Halfway Hexed (Southern Witch, #3) by Kimberly Frost

Halfway Hexed sees the return of Tammy Jo and her often mis-firing powers. Like the previous books, this book was charming and fun. Can't wait for the next one.

10. She Smells The Dead - E.J. Stevens - 168 pages

She Smells the Dead (Spirit Guide, #1) by E.J. Stevens

Interesting book with an interesting premise. I enjoyed it, but think that it could have been longer.

11. Desires of the Dead - Kimberly Derting - 355 pages

Desires of the Dead (The Body Finder, #2) by Kimberly Derting

Desires of the Dead is the follow up to last years The Body Finder. I had heard mixed things about the book, but I really enjoyed the story. The love story between Violet and Jay was still sweet and engaging.

Katie (bigferret) | 45 comments 12. Seismic Evil - Heather Long - 244 pages

Seismic Evil by Heather Long

Second book in the Chance Monroe series. It was great to have Chance back and have her character grow.

13. River Marked - Patricia Briggs - 324 pages

River Marked (Mercedes Thompson, #6) by Patricia Briggs

Next book in the Mercy Thompson series. It was a nice departure from the rest of the series. River Marked featured Mercy and her finance, Adam, away from the pack and allowed the two characters to grow together.

14. Spirit Storm - E.J. Stevens - 189 pages

Spirit Storm (Spirit Guide, #2) by E.J. Stevens

The follow-up to She Smells the Dead. Truthfully, She Smells the Dead and Spirit Storm should have been a single book, but were split into two. Spirit Storm had a much more satisfying conclusion than She Smells the Dead, but both were good reads.

15. 47 Echo - Shawn Kupfer - 313 pages

47 Echo by Shawn Kupfer

47 Echo is one of the most unputdownable books I have read in a long time. At first I was a little hesitant to start reading. With a premise that convicts are given the option of death or being impressed into the armed forces to fill ranks being rapidly depleted by a war with China and Korea, I figured the book would be ultra violent and disturbing. BUT 47 Echo wasn’t at all what I expected. It ended up being a great military thriller about redemption in the face of sure death.

Katie (bigferret) | 45 comments 26. Beautiful Darkness - Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl

Beautiful Darkness (Caster Chronicles, #2) by Kami Garcia

It took me forever to finish. The story took forever for me to get into and suffered from the same problem as Beautiful Creatures...just being way too long and drawn out. I may have to pass on Beautiful Chaos.

Katie (bigferret) | 45 comments 27. Allegra Fairweather – Janni Nell – 280 pages

Good supernatural mystery.

28. Nightfall – Ellen Connor – 327 pages

Apocalyptic world in the making. Interesting story, but the distracted from the story.

29. Deadline – Mira Grant – 581 pages

Second in the Newsflesh trilogy. Not as good as Feed. Suffers from middle book syndrome.

30. Magic Slays – Ilona Andrews – 308 pages

Another great addition to the Kate Daniels series.

31. Magic Mourns – Ilona Andrews – 66 pages

Short story companion to Kate Daniels series. Not a story of Kate, but Andrea Nash. Enjoyable tale, but too short.

32. Ashes, Ashes - Jo Treggiari – 341 pages

Interesting post-Apocalyptic story. Enjoyable and fast reading.

33. Numbers – Rachel Ward – 325 pages

Good book, but the blurb on the back was completely misleading.

34. The Forest of Hands and Teeth – Carrie Ryan – 308 pages

Cross between The Village and Dawn of the Dead. The main character was super annoying, but the book was still enjoyable.

35. Emerald Talisman – Brenda Pandos – 202 pages

Started out good, but ended up just being a so-so read.

36. Rot & Ruin – Jonathan Maberry – 458 pages

Different take on the Zombie Apocalypse. Good, fast read.

37. Dragon Virus – Laura Anne Gilman – 99 pages

Awesome read. Totally unexpected.

38. Married With Zombies – Jesse Petersen – 241 pages

Fun read about a couple who find a way to save their marriage by killing zombies.

Nice short story in the Sigma world.

40. Callsign: King - Jeremy Robinson and Sean Ellis - 188 pages

Short story featuring King. First in the Callsign series.

41. The Jungle - Clive Cussler and Jack Du Brul - 416 pages

Not the best book. Really broken up story.

Very unique book based on very unique photographs.

43. Seven Souls a Leaping - K.F. Zuzulo, Lisa Pietsch and Heather Long - 269 pages

Interesting series of connected short stories.

44. Flip This Zombie - Jesse Petersen - 272 pages

Second book in the series. Not as fun as the first.

45. 8 Minute Meditation: Quiet Your Mind. Change Your Life - Victor Davich - 208 pages

Latest Caitlin Strong novel. Good story, but it took me a while to get into the book.

47. Countdown - Mira Grant - 88 pages

Awesome back story for the Newsfeed trilogy.

48. Joe Ledger: The Missing Files - Jonathan Maberry - 200? pages

Audio collection of Joe Ledger short stories. Interesting collection of short adventures. Fills in a few gaps.

49. Working Stiff - Rachel Caine - 320 pages

First book in a new series. I can't say I really enjoyed it, but there may be promise in the series.

50. Eat Slay Love - Jesse Petersen - 288 pages

Great third tale of David and Sarah.

50.1. Shambling with the Stars - Jesse Petersen - 31 pages

Short story of zombies in Hollywood.

50.2. In the Dead - Jesse Petersen - 92 pages

Collection of stories about life in a zombie apocalypse.

50.3. First Frost - Jennifer Estep - 50? pages

Short story introduction into a new YA series.

51. Cold Vengeance - Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child - 368 pages

Latest Pendergast novel. Not as good a previous books. Really felt like a middle book in a series.

52. Horse Soldiers - Doug Stanton - 432? pages

Listened to this as a audio book. Great tale of the heroism of the men who first went to Afghanistan after 9/11.

53. Power of Six - Pitticus Lore - 406 pages

Continuing story of I Am Number Four. Good cliffhanger.

54. Canyons of Night - Jayne Castle - 325 pages

There was something incomplete about this book. I liked it but felt like I was missing half the story.
