Muphyn | 58 comments Hallo!

Daisy | 35 comments I'm sure you've heard of Christa Wolf. There's also an author I've only read in German: Maxie Wander. In English, there's Anna Funder's Stasiland.

Muphyn | 58 comments Daisy,

yes, I know Christa Wolf (had to read Der geteilte Himmel at school) - didn't really grab my interest then but then again, I was 15 at the time and should give her books another try. Also know of Maxie Wander but have never read anything. Thanks for mentioning her!

Thanks for suggesting Stasiland by Anna Funder - a friend of mine recently suggested it too I can't believe I hadn't heard of her before, since she's from Melbourne which is where I live... Stasiland looks like a really intersting read, so I might start with that. THanks!!

Jana,

Daisy | 35 comments I read Maxie Wander's diary in my limited German. I don't know if it's been translated. I think it's called Leben Waere eine Prima Idee. The only other book of hers that I know is about the lives of women in the DDR. I haven't thought of her in years but I remember loving the diary. Let me know if you read it. I might read it again.

Muphyn | 58 comments I did a quick search on GR and it returned a few books for Maxie Wander, two of which are collections of diary entries and letters.

The second one looks like the one you mentioned, and I think I'll put it on my to-read shelf. Will let you know what I think of it!

Juliane (libristar) Stefan Heym "5 Days In June" (Fünf Tage im Juni) fällt mir dazu ein.
