So, what does everyone think of him as Anakin Skywalker? I'm not a fan of his acting in Episodes II and III, and I read that he was awarded the Razzie for his role in both films. Actually, I think any actor might have had trouble with some of the clunky dialogue. I'm sort of undecided about it all, though.

Well, I thought he was very good in three, but I like to joke about him and his awful acting in two.
"No. No. Mom. No."

Redwallcrazy (redwallcrazybigkotfan) | 40 comments I thought his acting was fine, but I love the way he looks. At least he isn't as bad as what Mark Hamill did when he found out Dark Vader was his father, he purely over acted that. "No!!!!!"

message 5: by Bill (new)

Bill (kernos) | 27 comments The pundits think Hayden is stiff and unconvincing in general. I think he did fine as Anakin, esp in episode III, which I think is as good as ep. V. I thought he and Ewan worked well together.

I thought he was really good in Life as a House and in Shattered Glass. But nothing since, I've seen, has been very good.

You realize your sole enemy is your father and all you say is: "Okay, I'm happy to be your son"?

Alexander Draganov (darthsparhawk) In my opinion he is a talented young actor, who did a decent job in Episode II and was very good in Episode III. I think that viewers have to keep in mind that it is not very easy to play in a big green room and to imagine that a ball in front of you is a spaceship. Also, youths in love often look stupid and so Hayden did well in that :D But I think that the main reason some people dislike him is that they remember how cool and menacing Vadet was in the OT and can not relate him to a teenager, who is desperately in love and a bit whiny.

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

Interesting points.

Yeah, I agree he was definitely better in III, and has some very good scenes with Ian McDiarmid (whom I thought was supurb as Palpatine). I felt that Hayden transitioned well to Vader, physically.

I think what bugs me are some of the scenes with Ewan McGregor, where there seems to be a frequent unspoken conflict, like a grating of personalities. I don't want to just say that this is bad acting, though. I think it's Anakin trying to be more than Obi-Wan will allow him to be.

message 10: by Alexander (new)

Alexander Draganov (darthsparhawk) It is part of the main conflict in the series, the lack of understanding between the two. My personal impression is that Anakin is a person who needs to be cuddled and encouraged a lot and Kenobi was not that kind of person. Even Alec Guiness stated once (can't find it now, though) that he blames Kenobi for the fall of Vader and dislikes his own character. Of course, it's not that Anakin is totally innocent - far from it. It is that with a better master, Qui-gon for example (although he has his own bitter failure with Xanatos), Anakin could have grown up different.
So in a way Hayden did a splendid job in portraying a deeply insecure and sometimes annoying teenager, the false bravado of whom was covering serious issues.

I definitely agree with most of the points made, and when I see Hayden I think of him as anakin now. I also definitely think he was better in three.

Yulia he's hot

message 14: by Alexander (new)

Alexander Draganov (darthsparhawk) Has anyone watched "Jumper"? He was cool in that movie and the film itself was interesting. Samuel L. Jackson also stars there.

message 15: by Noelle (new)

Noelle | 3 comments I think he's cute. :)

It also really bugs me when people criticize an actor because of the way they acted in a particular movie or scene. If the director wants the character portrayed in a certain way, then that's what the actor should do. If Hayden was good enough for GL, then we should be satisfied with that.

message 16: by Alicia (new)

Alicia (aliciaftw) When Revenge of the Sith came out I was only 14 at the time, and quite biased because of his good looks. He's not as good as I thought him back then. At times, as it's been mentioned, his acting was completely stiff. Star Wars doesn't have the best dialogue though, and I haven't watched Christensen act in anything besides Star Wars.

Jessica Boardman (jessicacane34) | 1 comments His acting is part of the reason that I don't enjoy episodes two and three as much as I should have. When I think of a good performance of someone turning themselves over to evil due to a tragic event that scarred them, I DO NOT think of him first. I think of James Franco in Spider-Man, or Aaron Eckhart in The Dark Knight, I think that almost anyone would have done a much better job than he did.

Naomi of the Rargle Corporation (maeras) | 2 comments His acting is why Episode 2 is the worst. >:/

message 23: by Anna (new)

Anna (SylviaGrant) His acting is why Episode 3 is the worst of one and two put together and why it also sucks. I mean what's so hot about a guy that likes to look at you with evil yellow eyes? sound familiar? Edward but that is a different story.

Zanib (dawnofthebooks) i think his acting was fine, it wasnt overlly dramatic or anything, it made him unique, the way he talked. not like all the actors you see nowadays

Yes, quite obviously unique was what he was going for. No actor dares to be as unique as he is.
