Eva King | 1071 comments Hey Sharon are you going to hand in a short story to that new publing company? the one in struggling authors? I have a short story on my head, I'll put it down on paper soon, but will you be ok to have a looksie to my atrocious grammar...

message 8258: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Atkinson (darkened_angel) Yes that is not a problem, it will have to be quick the deadline is coming up. And I was thinking of doing one as well.

Ah definitely no horse, pure pork, these will be homemade - anyway horsemeat is dark meat, grainy tastes of nothing in particular and the tender meat is from older horses! And yes I have tried it knowing it was horse, and not hoodwinked by others who shall remain nameless for obvious reasons. Libel being the foremost that springs to mind!

Not really, I'm funny about left overs - stuff like sauces I freeze for another day, I hate eating the same stuff 2 days running. Stems from being forced to eat them when I was younger! Though sometimes I turn leftover chicken into chicken and mushroom sauce for pies or to eat with pasta!

I just finished my chicken tikka masala and rice - miam, miam - not too spicy unlike the last one I made from scratch - lol it was hotter than the beef madras. Heavy handed with the hot chilli powder, that's me!

I am still going through The Menorah Murders whilst waiting for Paul to get back to me. So I think I will give it a miss.

Yep I know and I've probably already erased most of them whilst editing as I go!

Lol red lines make you think before you write the next time!

What do you guys think of the freebie thing? I am not sure what to think. I had a review that really helped after a freebie.

I think you are right perhaps i had better steer clear. Especially as I might give up not doing freebies.

A real dead person. I have never seen one for real I think that would freak me out.

They sound a group of weirdos to me, who doesn't like free?

Right now I am off to town to pick up the gates for the new house, Alain's belated Christmas/valentine's day pressie!

Hi Alexandra,

I was looking at using it but to tell you the truth I don't know if I quite understand what it does!

All I want is to give people the ability to buy paperback copies of my ebooks.

What do you use it for?

With Createspace you have your paperbacks, and you also have the chance to also release it as a E book through Kindle. You get better commission with the Kindle than with the paperback, almost double in fact. If you need any help let me know, The Menorah Murders is now with the editors, so now I can get back to HOD until I get it back.

message 8279: by Tony (new)

Tony Gilbert (tonygilbert8) So do Createspace not just print and send on demand? So, if someone goes onto Amazon and wants to purchase my book in paperback, Createspace will send it out, charge the customer and pay me royalty? Or, would I buy a bulk of paperbacks from createspace and then send them direct to customers who select to purchase a paperback on Amazon.

message 8280: by Sarah (new)

You can buy copies to sign at book signings or people can go online and buy their own copies, you get royalties on copies bought buy customers but I don't think you get royalties on bulk buying. You can also have extended distribution for your book through outside sources at a cost of 25$ per book.

message 8281: by Tony (new)

Tony Gilbert (tonygilbert8) So, if I don't buy bulk and just allow customers to purchase direct from Amazon, there is no charge at all to me?

message 8282: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Weldon (sarahrweldon-author) | 6045 comments Tony wrote: "So, if I don't buy bulk and just allow customers to purchase direct from Amazon, there is no charge at all to me?"

No, it's free, I think the only criteria you have to pass is having purchased something from Amazon in the past in order to get this for free!

That's why I released Cally's Secret through them!

message 8283: by Tony (new)

Tony Gilbert (tonygilbert8) Great news!

Unfortunately my short story is too short to qualify lol!

I'll try it with my next one.

Just out of curiosity, did you have a look at the two bits of writing I posted the links for earlier today?

Off to bed now, so speak tomorrow maybe.

Night all!

No, not as yet I've been in and out all afternoon, gates have been the pre-occupation of the day here in Brittany! All done and dusted, Alain is going to fetch the gates tomorrow, it will be a couple of weeks before they are fixed lol not much point fixing the gates until the fencing at the front is up- a bit like shutting the stable door behind the horse that!

Sorry your story was too short to publish - I hope they don't have an upper limit too! My second book has gone off to the editors this evening and I know at the last count it was around the 118,000 word mark! And I have cut it several times in edit, but it still keeps coming back to the same figure.

I'm off to my bed too, I get a lie in tomorrow, no school!

Night all!

Eva King | 1071 comments Hey Toni! I've read the prologue. I noticed that you repeat his name a few time in such a small paragraph, as well as this I found it a bit choppy to read, maybe too many comas? and this sentence confused me
"Josh, confused and not a little scared; did I say that out loud?;"- Maybe I'm just being a bit blonde, was he thinking it? if so use cursive writing...
By the way, so I don't sound so negative, i like the job you've done showing instead of telling, makes it so much easier to imagine. By the way, is the man-monster Hulk?

Wimp! Lol kidding but I read Cujo when I was pregnant with Jo - made me wary of St Bernards who drool and slobber a lot but nothing more. I'll go take a look at Tony's short story in a mo, I've just come back from the house, yay we have electricity put out the flags and bring on the marching band! No more groping around by candle light or having to start up the generator in order to see what we're doing! All we now is the plumber and the fosse and we will be in business. I so want to be installed for my birthday on the 20th April!

message 8288: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Weldon (sarahrweldon-author) | 6045 comments Hi Tony I just looked at your idea, and like Eva I noticed a few things, mainly contradicting descriptives and order of words. The idea's interesting but I think you need to work on it as a synopsis not as an opening page. Work out the bones of the story how you see them, don't worry as your story evolves so can your synopsis, it's not written in stone it can be changed to suit new ideas.

Lol I haven't written a synopsis yet that hasn't undergone several changes before I get to the end of the story! I'll read the story now and take into account is not edited too.

Ah, no I'm Aries the ram on the cusp, the final day, sometimes I am obliged to read both the horoscopes of Taurus and Aries. Which means I'm twice as stubborn! Jo's birthday is the 29th, my grandson's birthday is the 27th and Alain's mother's is the 28th!

Okay, not a problem I have opened HOD and am reading through the last 2 pages I wrote before picking up the stictches and carrying on knitting the current chapter. I'm winding down my characters whilst hiking up the suspense for a hum dinger of an ending.

Which even I am not sure of as yet, I'll know which way to go as I get nearer. Hopefully!
