Dorie (dorieann) | 464 comments What were your favorites this year? You can list anything you read for the first time in 2010. I thought this may be a good way to find new books to read!

2010 was not a big reading year for me - it was a big writing year. My favorites so far (still 3 days to go).

Donna Leon, A Question of Belief. I'm almost finished and she does such a great job of making Venice a character in her books, that you almost don't notice the slow pace of her books.

Joanne Fluke, The Apple Turnover Mystery - Just finished it. I don't know what it is about her stories, but I can't put them down.

Finally, someone who appreciates
[book:The Last Child
as much as I do. That book has taken a lot of criticism on other threads, but I think it is one of the best books I have read in a while. Hart's other books are terrific, too.

Mike Dennis (mikedennis) | 28 comments The Friends of Eddie Coyle by George V Higgins
You'll Die Next! by Harry Whittington
Florida Gothic Stories by Vicki Hendricks
White Shadow by Ace Atkins
Cassidy's Girl by David Goodis and also,
Street 8 by Douglas Fairbairn

These are all outstanding noir novels which I have read during 2010 (the Vicki Hendricks book is a collection of short stories). If anyone is interested in any of these, I reviewed them all on my website http://mikedennisnoir.com

Have you read the other Ace Atkins books? I didn't think that I would like Wicked City but it, too, was enjoyable. I'm reading Infamous now (suggested to me here) with Wicked (?) Garden on tap (maybe the garden is evil instead.

message 23: by Mike (new)

Mike Dennis (mikedennis) | 28 comments Jan, I read INFAMOUS, but while it was a good story told from the points of view of both the law and the criminal, it lacked the vivid detail of WHITE SHADOW. In that book, Tampa had a real presence, one you could feel, taste, smell. That was lacking in INFAMOUS.
