Andreas (dread_dragon) | 4 comments Hi,

Some authors have different spellings in different languages. A good example is

[Author: Arkady Strugatsky]
[Author: Arkadi Strugatzki]

(And his brother Boris of course.)

The combination of editions is only possible when the authors match...

What can be done?

-Andreas

Check with the Library of Congress -- which spelling is considered the official one by them?

Andreas (dread_dragon) | 4 comments The "Library of Congress" won't be valid for the whole world, that's why I ask.

Someone from Goodreads would have to decide which should be the valid transformation of non-latin characters into their latin equivalents. At the moment these transformations are different for, let's say, the USA and Germany. For me it's okay to use the "Library of Congress" as reference.

Understood, but it has been decided that it is considered by GR to be the official arbiter of such things.

Vira (ata_zh) | 3 comments It wood be great if Goodreads had redirects from all existing variants of author's name to one main page — just like Wikipedia does.
Is this discussed somewhere in the groups?

It would be great, but it is not currently possible. Current policy is still to use the Library of Congress as the authority for the primary spelling of an author's name if they have published in English. Other spellings can have separate profiles with bios linking to the primary spelling and can be used as secondary authors for searchability.
