• Street Game by Christine Feehan

Were there any books you did not like? Why?

Loving Jiro by Jordyn Tracy-way too descriptive on sexual abuse, love scenes clinical and off-putting, no connection b/w H/h; Back to Life by Linda O. Johnston-story not well-written, unlikeable hero; The Prophecy of the Sisters by Michelle Zink-boring, unlikeable characters.

Did your reading surprise you in any way? Was it different from the usual?

I read some very long books this year. I don’t like long books. The longest was 901 pages. I was pretty happy that I accomplished this.

Did you meet your reading goals this year?

By and large, yes. I was happy that I have read quite a few books that had languished on my tbr pile for years. I’d like to continue this trend.

What are your reading goals for next year?

Read 240 books. Read these series in entirety
1. Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer (have read book 1)
2. Harry Potter series by JK Rowling
3. Chronicles of Narnia (reread) by CS Lewis
4. Wrinkle in Time series by Madeleine L'Engle
5. Ice Series by Anne Stuart (reread-already did Black Ice)
6. The Guild-Hunters by Nalini Singh
7. The Fever series by Karen Marie Moning
8. The Night Angel series by Brent Weeks
9. Sirantha Jax series by Ann Aguirre
10. Blades of the Rose series by Zoe Archer
11. Tairen Soul series by C.L. Wilson

Get Caught up on These Series:

1. Immortals After Dark by Kresley Cole
2. Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs
3. Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews
4. Artemis Fowl series by Ioin Colfer
5. Half-Blood series by Rick Riordan
6. Royal Four series by Celeste Bradley
7. Carpathians by Christine Feehan
8. House of Rohan series by Anne Stuart
10.Travises by Lisa Kleypas
11.Parasol Protectorate by Gail Carriger

Harlequin/Silhouette Reading Challenge:

Read a minimum of 100 Harlequin/Silhouette books over the year (includes all lines from any year, new or old in collection and any category book).

Finally read books by these authors:

Meredith Duran
Tessa Dare
Robyn Carr
Linnea Sinclair
Stephanie Tyler
JRR Tolkien

Did you read any books out of your normal routine?

More epic fantasy. I read more classic books this year. Two Oscar Wilde, Henry James, and Robert Louis Stevenson.

Any new genres that you got into this year? What books got you into this type of reading?

I read more fantasy than ever last year, particularly epic fantasy. I’m not overfond of long books, but I was pleasantly surprised at the ones I read, such as The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss and Kushiel’s Dart by Jacqueline Carey.

Who is your favorite new author?

Zoe Archer, Ava Gray, Rick Yancey, Donald Allen Kirch, Ann Aguirre, Gail Carriger, Emery Lee

Did you glom any authors this year (meaning: read as many of the author's books you could get your hands on)?

Christine Feehan, Gena Showalter, Patricia Briggs, Ilona Andrews

Any new authors you plant to read more of this year?

Zoe Archer, Ann Aguirre, to name a couple.

Favorite hero and why? Has this changed?

Still is Sebastian Ballister, Lord Dain from Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase. He’s just wonderful. Bad, but good at the same time.

Favorite heroine and why? Has this changed?

Still Jessica Trent from Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase. A fantastic heroine.

Any authors you decided to 'fire' (meaning you no longer read)? Why?

I don’t think I will read more books by Michelle Zink or Linda O. Johnston. They wrote the two one star books I read. I won’t be reading more Jordyn Tracy, because I was very disappointed with the book I read by her last year.

What was the most unique storyline you read in a book this year?

That’s a tough one. I read a lot of fantasy, and there were so many good books in that genre.

Any book you liked that you were surprised that you liked?

Kushiel's Dart by Jacqueline Carey. I don't care for the BDSM subject matter, or long books, or political intrigue-filled books, and this book tackled those brilliantly.

Any books you expected to love but were disappointed by?

Loving Jiro by Jordyn Tracy

Favorite couple and why? Did this change?

Still Jessica and Dain from Lord of Scoundrels.

Anything else you want to tell us about your reading this year?

It was a great reading year. I hope this one is as good or better.

Contemporary – 52
Romantic Suspense—47
Re-reads—28
New to me authors—55
Historical/frontier—7
I also had 27 DNF

Various Themes (If you keep track—for example, Marriage of Convenience.
I don't break down my reading this way.

What were the top ten books that you read this year?
I can't narrow mine down to 10 without leaving out some of my favorites.
Shades of Midnight –Lara Adrian
You Don’t Know Jack –Erin McCarthy
Hot Nights – Shannon McKennon
Nauti Deceptions – Lora Leigh
Delicious – Shayla Black
Rescue Me – Christy Reece
Naked Edge – Pamela Clare
Lion’s Heat – Lora Leigh
Unleashed – Jami Alden
If Looks Could Kill – Nina Bruhns
The Trouble with Josh – Marilyn Pappano
Murphy’s Law – Marilyn Pappano
Bonds of Justice – Nalini Singh
Ruthless – Anne Stuart
The Temptation of Savannah O’Neill- Molly O’Keefe
Destined for an Early Grave – Jeaniene Frost
The Darkest Hour – Maya Banks
Eternal Kiss of Darkness – Jeaniene Frost

Were there any books you did not like? Why?

27 DNF books with 2 surprises…skin game Ava Gray (in my notes I have written that I really Disliked h so I couldn’t get into it
2. Pursuit- Elizabeth Jennings I didn’t like h in this one either.

What is your top favorite book and why?
Destined for an Early Grave – Jeaniene Frost
This is the book that hooked me to series. I loved it. It had me on a rollercoaster of emotions.

Did your reading surprise you in any way? Was it different from the usual?

I was surprised that I managed to read as many as I did. I thought I was reading less. But this year I’ve read more category books and they are shorter.

Did you meet your reading goals this year?
yes

what are your reading goals for next year?
I want to chip away at my tbr pile.

Did you read any books out of your normal routine?
This is first year I’ve read Harlequin Super romances and I’m enjoying the line.

Any new genres that you got into this year? What books got you into this type of reading?
Not really. I read most genres except for YA and I may make myself read that in 2011.

Who is your favorite new author?
Jeaniene Frost

Did you glom any authors this year (meaning: read as many of the author's books you could get your hands on)?
Jeaniene Frost and Kerrelyn Sparks

Any new authors you plan to read more of this year
Gena Showalter,Beth Andrews,Karina Bliss,Maya Banks,Jaci Burton

Favorite hero and why? Has this changed?
Bones from the Jeaniene Frost Night Huntress series. He is scrumptious ,protective, romantic.
Up to this year I would have said Sebastian from Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas.

Favorite heroine and why? Has this changed?
I haven’t given this much thought but I would have to say that Evie from Devil in Winter is my favorite heroine. I think she is a strong, smart heroine and she was able to ‘tame’ Sebastian.

Any authors you decided to 'fire' (meaning you no longer read)? Why?
Charlaine Harris because I’m tired of the love triangle. The longer it goes on it just seems juvenile to me. I prefer my series with constant H/h and a developing story arc (Jeaniene Frost) OR a developing story arc with changing H/h (like Lara Adrian). I get next one from library if it’s got good buzz but I don’t plan to buy it.
Also Sarah McCarty has disappointed me in the last two books I’ve read.

What was the most unique storyline you read in a book this year?
Tempt me with darkness Shayla black—Doomsday Brethren I read the first 2 in series and gave up on 3. I love her erotic/contemporary writing but her PRN world just didn’t appeal to me

Any book you liked that you were surprised that you liked?
Renegade Hunter Lynsay Sands & Born to Bite. I had almost given up on this series but picked these up at library

Any books you expected to love but were disappointed by?
Kresley Cole—pleasure of a dark prince
Caleb- Sarah McCarty

Favorite couple and why? Did this change?
Bones & Cat
The more I read of this couple the more I like them individually and together.

Thanks for sharing, Othena. It's very hard to pick ten favorites. I actually had a lot of books I read last year that I loved. I guess that's a good thing! Here's to a good reading year for you!

message 5: by Othena (new)

Othena Lady Danielle, hope you have a good reading year too.
I tried to narrow it down to 10 but it got so complicated, know what I mean???
I was suprised I had 27 dnf's but I just don't have the patience to muddle through a book that I'm not liking anymore.

Othena, I got kind of lazy when I was analyzing my reading. I kind of left some stuff out, but that's okay. I am way too OCD as it is. I wish I was better about DNF'ing books. I feel like I have to finish it.

message 7: by Archer (new)

Archer Sheesh, this is a tough one.. Might take awhile for me to get it all sorted.

Archer, I know what you mean!

message 9: by Othena (new)

Othena Lady Danielle,I used to be the same way about finishing books. I thought it was wasting money to buy a book and not finish it. But my husband pointed out that it was a waste of time to finish a book I didn't like when I could be reading one that I did like.
That helped ease the 'frugal-gene' I inherited from my dad. :)

Your husband made a good point. I don't finish a book that is not my thing and I don't want to read it. Usually, I have been able to push past it if it's a slow read or something. But, I will try to just let go of a non-starter book if my gut says I don't want to finish it.
