message 1: by Carol/Bonadie (new)

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 8263 comments My beloved Dad is showing some signs of decline, forgetfulness and needing help more with daily living tasks, requiring more of my attention. I am determined to keep him at home as long as possible, and have brought in part time caregiving help.
If I am missing on the board for pockets of time you'll understand why. I'm still checking in, and posting when I can. If you need my attention faster than my appearance on GR, please leave a GR message in my Inbox, I will look there first when I log on.
And of course, we appreciate those special M/T prayers and good wishes.

I am so sorry to hear this and my heart and hugs go out to you and your Dad. It is really good that you are able to bring in care-giving help to give you peace of mind when you are not able to be there due to work responsibilities. I am glad you are able to keep him at home with you and know that is a comfort to both of you. We are here for you at any time.

message 8: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (JaneNancy) | 161 comments Carol, some of us have been in that position and we know it is a hard thing to have to deal with. We know how difficult it is to have to watch a beloved parent decline in health and mental abilities. We reach out to you in love and sympathy as you go through this and I'm sure we all wish we could be closer to you to lend a hand when you need us.
Love,
NJ

Dawn | 1320 comments Carol and Merrilee, My thoughts go to you both. My dad has needed my help more and more in the past couple of years as well. Each times he is apologetic to the time he's taken up of my days, I honestly tell him its such an honor to be there for him, and I'm lucky enough to have a schedule that allows for it. In the midst the of the extra stress and concerns, know that you are providing them such a comfort, and I hope that gives you the stength to get through it too.

message 25: by Snap (new)

Snap | 52 comments Hang in there, Carol. It is a difficult time for both of you. Grab hold of the good days and wonderful memories. Hugs to both of you.

We are interviewing hospice programs for Mr. Dragon. Unfortunately, only 30% survive his type of cancer and he won't be one of them. That's why I haven't posted. I'll try to get an end of year report done.

Best wishes to all my M/T family.

Snap, I'm so sorry to hear this. My hubby is fighting his own cancer battle now. It's not curable either, but he's receiving drugs that can extend his life. He's at home on temporary disability right now.

message 39: by Snap (new)

Snap | 52 comments It is a difficult decision to make. Mr. Dragon decided against further therapy. He went through the chemo and radiation (together) and then very difficult surgery. Said it wasn't worth being sick 10 out of 14 days to get an extra month. Good luck and I'll be sending hugs, prayers and dragon vibes your way.
