Book summary**

An alluring laird

He was known throughout the kingdom as Hawk, legendary predator of the battlefield and the boudoir. No woman could refuse his touch, but no woman ever stirred his heart - until a vengeful fairy tumbled Adrienne de Simone out of modern-day Seattle and into medieval Scotland. Captive in a century not her own, entirely too bold, too outspoken, she was an irresistible challenge to the sixteenth-century rogue. Coerced into a marriage with Hawk, Adrienne vowed to keep him at arm's length - but his sweet seduction played havoc with her resolve.

A prisoner in time

She had a perfect "no" on her perfect lips for the notorious laird, but Hawk swore she would whisper his name with desire, begging for the passion he longed to ignite within her. Not even the barriers of time and space would keep him from winning her love. Despite her uncertainty about following the promptings of her own passionate heart, Adrienne's reservations were no match for Hawk's determination to keep her by his side....

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 73 comments This was my least favorite of the series so far. The book itself wasn't terrible, but I think that Moning had yet to hit her stride with this series and was still probably figuring out what she wanted to do. I definitely think that the books get much better as the series progresses.

The fact that the main character was called "The Hawk" really drove me crazy. It was like I kept thinking "The Rock" or "The Hoff" without meaning to.

I don't like that name...ugh. I heard that the least three weren't that good so I started with four. I'll have to read book 1 soon to see how it is.

lmao!

I didn't care much for this book either. Not that I didn't like it but if you compare it to some others in this series you can't help but wonder what was wrong with KMM when she wrote it...

I guess I just love anything highlander.... so even loved this book.

Well, I've just started this book now and I'm really enjoying it so far! Not that I would know how it is compared to the other books, but so far it's been one of those sleep-stealers! :)

Regina (reginar) I am glad there are people who like it! It is sort of a toe dipping introduction of the Fae and the gypsies (who come again in Drustan's book). I feel bad, but this is my least favorite. I disliked the heroine, I disliked how bad Adam was. But we all like different stuff. :)

Mariya, #3 is good, it is just different from 4-8, in that it has more historical stuff but it still has a great love story, time travel, Fae stuff (Adam is in it), modern portions and scenes that take place in the past. Because it is more historical and so different from the straight PNR romances, that is why I tell people to start with #4 and then go back if they like it.

Nicole Brown (nickichicki) | 37 comments I know a lot of people don't care for this one but it will always hold a special place in my heart! I consider this one of the first "true" romance novels I read (I had read Darkfever and Bloodfever before this but i don't really consider them romance genre, even though they were found in that section). I honestly i really liked this story.

Lisa O. | 26 comments So I am finally getting around to the highlander series and I started with this one. I loved it and I'm very excited for the rest of the series if this is one of the worst ones. There were several things that drove me crazy, but overall I thought it was great. I also didn't like his name, so I usually just left out "the" in my head, and just called him "Hawk". Also, how Adrienne just kept pushing him away and using Adam to get to him, even after she knew she wanted him was really starting to get to me. But in the end I was very happy for both of them so I can overlook the annoying stuff. I don't read true romances very often, so I consider them kind of a guilty pleasure, which this book totally was.

If possible try to read them in order. Characters from the previous book will sometimes carry into the next one, but you will still be able to follow each book if you can't read them in order. Don't worry about them getting worse, they only get better. My personal favorites of the Highlander series are "Kiss of the Highlander" & "Dark Highlander." There is just something about the MacKelter brothers that gets your blood moving. WARNING: You may want to move to Scotland once you are done with this series. Happy Reading!!

Lisa O. | 26 comments LOL! Thanks for the warning, I think I already want to move there!

Twana (ms_twana) | 5 comments Just finished this book. It took me a minute. I stopped reading it for a while then went back to it. It definitely wasn't the page turner that the Fever series was for me, but it was still good. Like Lisa O said, I hated that Adrienne kept being so mean to Hawk. After she realized how she felt, it drove me CRAZY that she still kept playing with him; just like Mac in Fever. I've started the second book now. I keep hearing that they get better and better, so I can't wait to really get into the thick of the series.

Love the warning...cause it's TOTALLY TRUE! :)

WTF Are You Reading? | 1 comments I just found this series and love it soooooo much!
I can't wait to read them all!

Savannah (skyswriting) | 15 comments I am not sure if I loved this book just because KMM wrote it, or that because I actually enjoyed the story... Nah, both reasons. I really loved Hawks soft side, the baby nursery creation actually gave me a whole new respect for that character haha. I did love the royal courts love triangle plan to make Hawk suffer too... I haven't read any others in this series yet though. Hard for me to go back and read this series after being on a Fever-high for so long

Oh it won't be hard at ALL! I have to re-read them as well after the fever series, because 4 books of the Highlander Series are about the MacKeltar Druids from fever series and about the "Adam Black" that's mentioned shortly. And even the LM has quite a huge part in Adam Blacks book!

I also loved Beyond the highland mist. It was my first KMM Book at all. And I really suffered with Hawk towards the end. :(

message 18: by Savannah (new)

Savannah (skyswriting) | 15 comments Maria, I heard that the Keltars show up! I've been wanting to get that far. I think what it really is, is that, I miss Barrons and Mac lolol. When I am reading a KMM book, I keep wishing they would jump into the backscenes, bickering and telling eachother off hahah

message 19: by Kyra (new)

Kyra | 106 comments I just started reading this last night. I'm about halfway through and really want to slap Adrienne for the way she's treating Hawk. It's not the best story but I will finish. I've already read the Fever Series and Iced (which I read first).
