Steph (angel4492) | 29665 comments Daffodil's post in "currently reading" inspired this thread. I like to read some paranormal mysteries too. So, I thought I'd create a thread where we can list which ones we've read and/or want to read.

Steph, I've never come across even one of these series and I wonder which one you would suggest most strongly. I might start ordering books (again!) based on your recommendations!

Steph (angel4492) | 29665 comments Hmmm, first let me say that I'm always nervous about providing recommendations for series that I'm not 110% head-over-heals in love with. I don't want anyone upset with me over the $ or time spent on a book.

That being said, I enjoyed Ghost Dusters quite a bit. It was different, funny and had some romance. I've only read #1 of Witchcraft Mysteries and it was ok. Not my favorite, but worth a read (maybe library to give the series a test-run 1st?). I didn't care for Harper Connelly's first book and haven't bothered trying to read any more of that series. I liked Jazz Tremaine's first book and will definitely continue with the series. Book 1 was a bit eh, but I think the series should get better with each book (my guess). I really liked Nick, the vamp and the story that "she's a witch and he's a vamp, but they are bad for each because of it" added a twist to their on again/off again relationship.

Out of the ones that I haven't read, I'm interested in at least reading #1 for each to see what they're like.

These books usually end up being a light, quick read, which is nice sometimes to break up the "heavier" reads each month.

Let me know which you decide to read and if you like it/them. :)

I might try "Jazz Tremaine" but I'm not yet sure about it. Will let you know more, when I've made the decision. Thanks for the answer anyway!

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 2098 comments Great idea Steph. It's funny, you started this thread 3 days ago and I only just now found it, not sure how I missed it.

Ones I've read:
Abby Cooper, Psychic Eye (Psychic Eye Mystery, #1) by Victoria Laurie I really love Victoria Laurie's Psychic Eye mysteries. The main character is a psychic, who runs her own business and keeps getting involved in murder investigations. The author, Victoria Laurie is a professional psyhic herself and regardless of your beliefs on the matter, this lends an authenticity to scenes centering around Abby's office consultations and business. This has become one of my favorite paranormal-mystery series.

Witch Way to Murder (Ophelia & Abby, #1) by Shirley Damsgaard One of my other favorite p-m series. Ophelia is a small town librarian and a reluctant witch. She also seems to keep stumbling into murder investigations and cannot help lending a helping hand despite skeptical law enforcement. Abby, her grandmother, often supplies guidance and wisdom.

Defending Angels (Beaufort & Company, #1) by Mary Stanton I've read all four books so far and enjoyed them. I had a little trouble with the suspension of disbelief factor with these. Not over the paranormal bits, I read plenty of UF/PNR and push the impossiblity aside to settle into the narrative. In the books, Brianna Winston has inherited her uncle's legal practice, not just his earthly one, but also his Celestial Court practice. She defends already deceased clients and attempts to mitigate their afterlife sentences. In the process she pursues her own investigations in order to dig up the truth about what happened and presents these facts in court. My problem is that shouldn't an Angelic Court already know the truth? Why is an investigation and defense even needed? There's some logical point that's not quite worked out in there. However, the concept is unique and I've enjoyed reading them anyway.

I've read the first book in a couple of the other series listed here, but I'm running out of time this afternoon. If I think of anything, I'll come back later and comment.

Steph (angel4492) | 29665 comments Great! Thanks for the reviews/suggestions. These type of books always provide a nice buffer when looking for a lighter read. I'll have to check some of those out, Diane.
