An Effector lawyer rails against the effect of the government on 82 copyright-infringing websites.

One telling sentence stands out for me:

"What investigations didn’t occur while the DHS spent its time and energy pursuing the agenda of large media companies?"

It's not just the "agenda of large media companies". It's the livelihood of thousands of small, private, individual authors.

It is a gross distortion of the truth for a lawyer for a special interest group to claim that piracy only hurts large companies.

It hurts my friends. It hurts self-published authors. It kicks authors who are already down, if their rights have reverted because their small press publishers are out of business, or if they were handed back their rights because the legal copies of their books aren't selling well enough.

Pirates say "The DMCA is bad legislation enacted at the behest of large corporations with deep pockets. It does not serve the needs of rights holders or consumers, it serves the needs of corporate executives and lawyers."

It serves the needs of individual authors, too. Let's put a true face on the victims of piracy.
