Do you have a question about any of the CRUSADE books? If so, post it here to get your question answered.

Kristi (krististern) I loved Crusade, you can see my review here on GR and on Amazon.
I know authors get asked this all the time but what was your inspiration to write about this?
Yes, it's vamp based but the dystopian theme is very unusual for this genre.
I loved this book and can't wait until the next comes out.
I also like the way you inferred and intertwined romance into the story yet didn't really write anything steamy into the book. I thought that was brilliant.

Hi, Kristi! Thank you so very, very much. Debbie and I both love to write about vampires; I've written over 30 things for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, and Debbie has written a trilogy about a Christian vampire (more on that when she's closer to pub date!)

We were world-building to write a short story for THE ETERNAL KISS, an anthology of vampire romance stories for our editor Trisha Telep. We decided to use World War II as our pattern to describe what's going on--in many ways, a dystopia in our own times. As we were writing the story, we thought it would make an excellent series. We proposed it to Simon Pulse, our WICKED publishers, and they bought it. We were thrilled! These characters have become very real to us and it's great that we get to spend more time with them.

Plus: we get to shop for vampire jewelry! Yay!

DAMNED is the title of Crusade #2. We have had some good jokes about turning in the d.....d manuscript, etc. We haven't seen the cover yet but we're really looking forward to it!

Kristi (krististern) That's so funny you'd bring that up-Trisha Teleps Anthology's. I think I own every anthology that Trisha's ever put out!

I think you and Debbie are both brilliant creative artists! And that's not butt munching going on here, I really do!

I have The Eternal Kiss, Passing was fabulous and the start of Crusade. Damned is due out shortly, right (I say hopefully) Eve

The cover of Crusade was great and I think true appreciation of it came more after you read the book. I've sent a lot of people to Crusade.
Shopping for vamp jewelry? How'd you girls get so lucky? LOL!!!

I'll be looking forward to Debbies Trilogy... not to sound stupid but it isn't going to be about Antonio, is it? He's already in the Crusade Series. I truly hope it's another series because the whole concept rocks and I don't think it can be over done, especially with the way you guys write.

I have/had the print books of Wicked but when I got sick 2 years ago, a work 'friend' came to see me, she went through my many book cases and I made the mistake of loaning them both to a 'friend' who never returned them. I ended up getting them on my Kindle anyways but it's just the point, ya know?
Now, I only loan my print books to my closest friends and if I have a signed book, NOBODY gets it!

I've watched every Buffy and Angel episode out there multiple times and I've read the available books even more.

Now that I know you guys come in here, I'm going to have a bunch of questions, is that ok? I won't ask for spoilers, I don't believe in that? Well, except for that slip about Debbies trilogy----but that was more of a passing question... :o]
That would be as bad as you quizzing me about my menses! (I'm an RN, LOL)

Thanks so much! It's been a genuine pleasure!

Erin (underwords) | 4 comments Hi All,

Did you see that Nancy is giving away Crusade on Goodreads? Check it out.

message 6: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (krististern) I did! I loved that book [see my review]. I have it on my Kindle because I've been 'ill' for about 2 years so I can't get to the book stores in the city anymore. The *City* is about 88 miles one way from me, I live in a tourist town which is great but has it's down falls, as well.

What did you like most about Crusade and what are you anticipating in the upcoming sequel?

message 7: by Erin (new)

Erin (underwords) | 4 comments Kindles and Nooks are the best invention ever! They make it so easy to read whatever book I want. :-)

What I liked most was the last scene when Jamie found the "present" that Holgar left in his bed. Hah! I thought that, after all of the struggle and fighting, it was a great way to end the book. I totally laughed when I got there. What a great release after all of the tension and build up for the big battle in New Orleans. Loved it!

I also really loved the scene in San Francisco. I can totally picture the fog rolling through the city streets. Awesome!

I'm really looking forward to the next book. It should be great.

What was your favorite part?

PS: San Francisco was a blast to write I go to the Maker Faire in San Mateo every year. Here's a link to it:

I also loved writing about Spain. BTW, what did you think of the Angel ep when Spike and Angel go to Italy and see Buffy with the Immortal?

message 10: by Kristi (last edited Jan 22, 2011 11:14AM) (new)

Kristi (krististern) I felt frustrated, kind of, also amused that they couldn't reach her! It was a lose/lose situation for the both of them! Everytime they got close to actually speaking to her, something got in the way!
The episode itself was hilarious. Spike getting all the cool Italian Leather and Angel getting the yuppie look and riding the scooters.

Also, Andrew, what a hoot! Despite his extreme geekiness I grew to love him in the last season and was really happy to see him being cheesy with the Senioritas (sp?) and them draping themselves all over him!
Thank you for the Happy New Year wish! The same to you but late. I've been sick with a rare neuromuscular disease for over 2 years and I'm in one heck of a flare up! I'm on bedrest right now but seeing a new specialist next month and have high hopes that she'll be able to get me back on my feet again.

My son just gave me a nifty lap top tray? for use in bed. I can't bear any pressure on my legs. It's pretty cool and lets me tilt my lap top up to the best angle, same with the mouse pad and it has a nifty little LED light.
I love it!
I watch Buffy every day on LOGO, Chill and occasionally on any channel that runs a marathon!

I hate to sound like a copy cat but yes, those were some of my favorites.
My very favorite was the beginning where it starts off with a bang and your not really sure what's going on and you have to pay attention to every minute detail. I loved that.
I liked the hint of romances that were budding but hadn't blossomed.

Kristi, how are you doing? I can't believe an entire month has gone by! I'm having a contest on my website for a copy of Buffy the Vampire Slayer 3, which is an omnibus of 3 Buffy novels. Go to to play!

I hope your feeling better!

Do you live in the UK or Ireland? If so, be sure to enter the Goodreads contest for the UK edition of The Curesed Ones (a Crusade Novel #1).

Good luck!

message 14: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (krististern) I saw that, Nancy. I live in the US but I had some questions and topics above that I posted to you that I would love to talk about.

FYI: This will make sense when you read the paragraph below: I'm watching Buffy right now on Logo: Sleeper episode, LOL.

I admit to being the hugest Buffy fan there is, I've watched every episode but it's never occured to me to read anything about her. I always thought the follow up books were moe fan fiction. Personally, I think Joss Whedon is a God and to think, you played such a pivatol role in it all; how amazing is that, Nancy? What an experience and cool life you're leading and have led so far.

I loved Crusade and wrote (I think) a very good review. I think I'm going to clean it up a bit and post it on my blog tomorrow. My blog had it's true 'Grand Opening' only a month ago and I like the idea of putting that up there especially since the book is from you.

Talk to you later!

Kristi The Book Faery

Thanks so much, Kristi. Congrats on your blog! You are the Blog Slayer! I will go check it out! There is a new book called "Whedonistas: A Celebration of the Worlds of Joss Whedon by the Women Who Love Them." It goes on sale on March 15 and I have an essay in it. I'll probably be doing a goodreads contest for it, so watch the skies!

message 16: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (krististern) Hi Nancy,

I didn't see your post come in!

My Blog is doing very well, over 700 followers! I've had some big name publishers (2) write me and ask if I would review upcoming YA ARC's for them :o] I'm tickled to death over that! A lot of hard work went into that blog and it's great to see it blossom.

I am going to look for Whedonistas. I know he has a fondness for Eliza Dusku-she's a fabulous actress but seems doomed---every TV series she's in gets cancelled. I loved Doll House and I couldn't believe they cancelled that just when the story was getting so good.
I think he's a brilliant man. I'm also a huge Supernatural Fan and haven't missed an episode of that, either :o]
Buffy, Supernatural and Angel. I could take pop quizzes on those shows and win with flying colors! I even remember the license plate tags on the impala on different seasons of Supernatural, LOL. Those shows made being sick and bedridden for so long bearable!

What are you doing now? Any f/u on Crusade? I'm waiting patiently but I'd love to get my hands on that book! Need an early reviewer? I've been doing lots of ARC's and I'd love to have a chance with one of your books!

Let me know how you're doing and what's going on! I've missed talking with you :o]

Take care, Nancy!

Hi, Kristi! Are you talking about DAMNED? It comes out in August. We don't have ARC's yet but if you would like to get on the review list, please email my assistant at We're not sure how many copies we will receive but we'll try to get one to you.

Thanks for all the sweet words about Joss and Whedonistas. And yes, it will be a great day when ED gets on another show that does not get canceled!

Tiffany May Ross (tiffanynoel) | 1 comments Hi Nancy!

I recently picked up Crusade at a Borders close-out (sigh- love Borders!) and have found it to be such a pleasant surprise =) I've been enjoying it so much that I've already gotten my sister, mom and best friend to buy their own copies! Anyway, we were wondering if you already know how many books will be in the series or is that a surprise? And also, will you be at Book Expo, because we'd love to come get our books signed by you!

message 19: by Kristi (new)

Kristi (krististern) Thanks so much, Nancy and yes, I'm talking about Damned!

I've been watching my Buffy reruns and Angel reruns and it sucks that ED didn't get more face time :o[
I love it that her BF was on DWTS and they showed her a lot. She looks great and has the hot BF to boot, Go ED!

I ordered Whedonistas and should be getting it on Monday, I cannot wait to get my hands on this book! Thanks for the heads up!

Take care and talk to you soon!

Erin (underwords) | 4 comments Hi Tiffany,

Nancy and Debbie do have additional books coming out in the Crusade series. The next one is called Damned and will be available in August.

Also, she is scheduled to be at BEA in New York, and she'll be at the Horror Writers Association's booth signing on May 24 at 1pm. I'm sure she'd love to sign your books.

:-) Erin

Holly (hollyyy) | 2 comments Hi, Nancy,

Your second book in the Crusade series, when does it come out in the UK?
We always seem to get the good books later on in the year compared to the USA,
Also getting away from the Crusade series but would you ever consider making a new Wicked book for the series? I loved the series about the witches and everything that happened in it :)

Holly :)

I'm not sure when it's coming out, Holly. I will try to find out for you! We based it on World War II. Our inspiration was a short story we wrote titled "Passing," which is in an anthology edited by Brit Trisha Telep titled THE ETERNAL KISS. After we wrote it we realized we could write a series about what took place in the story. So we did!

Thank you so much for contacting me!
