This forest whispers and curls and creeps, envious of the light surrounding it, its vines grab weak lives without thought.

So beware...

message 2: by Ada (new)

Ada (caladhieledhel-mellon) Darien circled on an air current above the forest. He had come to hunt the wild pigs that roamed the forest before, living in a symbiotic relationship with the ravenous, clutching trees, their feces and carcases enriching the earth that the trees leeched of nutrients. He angled his neck slightly, searching for movement through the thick canopy of leaves, trying to pick up glimpses of the dark-skinned hogs which blended so well with their environment. The air eddied about him, its currents irregular because of the unevenness of the treetops below, and he had to continually make minute shifts of his flight feathers to avoid crashing painfully into the branches. He dipped suddenly, and as he beat his wings to regain his former altitude, he glimpsed a flash of color- not hog, but human. Intrigued, he let himself glide downwards. A branch rose to meet him, and he grasped it firmly in his talons, sidling along it to get a clear view of the two women who stood casually chatting below.

message 3: by Maggie (new)

Maggie (maggie-swift) Araea quietly stalked through the trees, hearing voices ahead. Not one to lose an opportunity to eavesdrop, she silently changed to her bird form- a kestrel- and fluttered up to the nearest branch. But it was already inhabited! She almost fell out of the tree in surprise. It seemed she was not the only one snooping on the two women, whom she could now see clearly.

message 4: by Ada (new)

Ada (caladhieledhel-mellon) Turning his head sideways, Darien scrutinized the newcomer, then hopped down and settled beside her, his beak near her ear. "You are of the Hawk Tribe?" he asked softly, in the harsh tongue of the birds of prey. "What business have you here- and more importantly, have you any idea why one of our own tribe is parlaying with the enemy in the middle of this hostile forest?"

message 5: by Maggie (new)

Maggie (maggie-swift) Araea squawked quietly and shook her feathered head, "I know no more than you do, I am sure. I hope to find out."

message 6: by Ada (new)

Ada (caladhieledhel-mellon) He dipped his head in acknowledgment and returned his attention to the other two, sharp eyes spotting the glimmering pendant dangling from the one's hand, and the friendly, easy camaraderie on both their faces. He ruffled his feathers against the chill air, glaring with dark suspicion at the scene unfolding below. Vines, evidently sheared to bits by a sharp blade, littered the ground; other tendrils hesitated a respectful distance from the chatting pair. One must have rescued the other... so the Hawk clanswoman is either a fool, to have been caught by the vines or a traitor, to have rescued the Wolf-clanswoman...

Maggie (maggie-swift) Araea was thinking along the same lines. How dare she take a gifted pendant from a Wolf? It could be cursed-- and still, who would accept a Wolf's present? A true Hawk would smash it to the ground from the highest height, and attack the Wolf like the enemy mutt she is! She ruffled her feathers slightly and shifted on her talons. If she wasn't so interested in he conversation below, she'd swoop down and tear both their eyes out, no questions asked. Hawks had no need of traitors.

Summer ☀️ (summerroxyursox) | 7 comments Teresa was walking through the forest when she noticed Katerina talking with a member of another clan. She growled and changed into her wolf form. She looked around at her surroundings and noticed two members from the Hawk Clan up above her.

message 9: by Maggie (new)

Maggie (maggie-swift) Araea peered over the branch to see yet anotherWolf. How many were there to meet her clanmate? She seethed silently. If any more showed up, she'd pick them clean.

Summer ☀️ (summerroxyursox) | 7 comments Teresa met Araea's glare and returned it, growling, the hair on her back standing up.

message 11: by Tikane (last edited Apr 20, 2012 11:08PM) (new)

Tikane | 3 comments Anna walked into the forest alone. She had left her sister back at the riverbank. It was way too dangerous for a 12 year old to be in a place like this.
She had one dagger in each hand and glared at a nearby vine that writhed threateningly at her. She looked up and saw a bit of sky through the clusters of trees. Oh how she wished she could soar above the clouds with the rest of the eagles.
Yes, she was a member of the hawk clan. She couldn't fly because her shoulder was torn up in a fight with a wolf that was trying to steal supplies from her a week ago. She heard faint whispers and a growl of a wolf up ahead and ducked behind a tree trunk.
She listened intently and one of the voices had the faint wheeze that a screech owl makes. "Could that be," she whispered to herself. She heard rustling in the tree she was ducking behind and she saw two members of her clan and smiled up at them.
