What is everyone currently reading?

I'm currently reading "City of Bones" by Cassandra Clare and "Pretties" by Scott Westerfeld for some goodreads group readings.

The Other Boleyn Girl. I like it and I want to read it before I see the movie but I know the history generally speaking of Anne and Mary so it has been a bit harder for me to get addicted to because of that. I really liked The Constant Princess so I know I like her style.
I'm jonesing for my next Stephanie Plum book but they are all out at the library and I cant find them at the local thrift stores to save my life!

Currently reading Loose Girl. (I think another Chick or two has read this already.) I like it so far. It's a quick read and I can see lots of "me" in Kerry. Don't read too much into that--I haven't slept with NEARLY as many men as she has...

I'm just finishing up Bright Shiny Morning by James Frey...I started reading it a month ago, but had to return it to my library (it was one of those ones, it's so popular that I couldn't renew it)...I just got it back again and I'm really enjoying it.

Next on the list is The Knitting Circle. :) I've got 2 more books waiting for me at the library, which I'll be picking up on Friday...Janeology and Otherwise Engaged.

I'm reading Beijing Coma, by Ma Jian. It's a novel about the events of Tiananmen Square in 1989. I was there as a journalist at the time, and I find a lot of his descriptions very accurate, not least the endless bickering between different factions in the student movement. But he hasn't so far been able to capture the putrid smell that goes with 100,000 unwashed bodies and jars of pickled cabbage left out in the Beijing summer!

I just started The Faraday Girls by Monica McInerney last night. I'm only about 20 pages in so I don't really have an opinion yet.

I'm also reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix for the 3rd time.

Elizabeth you have the most fascinating life and you crack me up at the same time. I remember that time but honestly don't know as much about it as I should. Although now I think I may always associate that event with those smells.

I am trying to decide what to read next.

I just finished The knitting Circle... and The Mathematics of Love... by Emma Darwin. It was really good. Set in the 1700's and the 1900's.

I have a Michael Odjante book... Diveridio.. I think is the title.. Might give that a go!

I'm reading Season of the Witch by Natasha Mostert.

Its an intriquing story but not as thrilling as I was hoping. I'm not quite halfway so hopefully it will get better. Ok, I'll admitted, it was described as "...mesmerizing blend of alchemy and sexuality. be prepared to be seduce." I'm prepared but theres no seduction so far and frankly I am disappointed.

I'm reading At First Sight by Nicholas Sparks. So far its just ok....nothing exciting has really happened yet and I'm just feeling sorry for him living in this backwoods NC town. Does it get better??

I started Nineteen Minutes and then put it down so I'm going to go back to it once I finish this one. It had too many characters right off the bat which I found to be off-putting.

I read First Sight. I enjoy NS books but I'll be honest, I was disappointed with 1st Sight. It didn't get much more exciting or intising (sp ?). There is a sequel but I have yet to read it.

'True Believer' is the first book. Disappointing by NS standards; boring.
'First Sight' is the sequel (I don't think you have to read TB first). I have NOT read that one yet. I know I will eventually.

Well I am currently reading 2 different books...

Hercule Poirot's Casebook by Agatha Christie (which is a mass collection of all the Poirot's cases)

and the book I am reading ever so slowly and need to pick up the pace on is...
The Portrait of a Lady by Henry James

But I am doing inventory this weekend and have really bizarre work hours till Tuesday. After I get off at 4 this morning (Monday) I will have to take a nap then read like a mad woman to catch up before next month's reading for groups!!

Well shit. I hate when I do it backwards....that didn't come out right...;) I hate when I read a sequel first. Ok much better! It really doesn't get any better cause its pretty boring right now. Maybe I should read this later after reading True Believer??

I doubt it makes a difference, Holli. TB is about when dude come to small town for a story and meets chic, even though neither are looking for a relationship. (blah blah blah typical romance storyline) There could have been a decent paranormal story mixed in there, scratch that, there SHOULD have been but there wasn't.

I'm reading Marley and Me at the moment and it's great because I have a labrador and I'm re-living our first moments together through the book and also learning more about the breed.

Neither of those books by Nicholas Sparks was his best work, but go read The Choice or The Wedding and NS will completely redeem himself for ya!

Is ANYONE reading or has read "The Road"? My book club has it for August and I just can't get through such a heavy, dark book in the summertime! Ugh!

Edgar Sawtelle is next for me...it has been reviewed well on this board.

OMG....I just read The Choice....be prepared to HAVE to finish the book by at least the halfway point and have tissues ready for the end!!!

Cyn - my book club did the road a few months ago. I however read the first chapter and said I HATE THIS!! Same problem as you....it was heavy, boring and a topic I'm not real keen on to begin with. Needless to say it is in my DNF (did not finish) pile. Its also in my list of "books you hated that everyone loved"
Oprah books.....they'll kill you every time!

OK. I'm really thinking I don't want to read either of those NS books now....trouble is I bought them and now feel I HAVE to read them. Maybe I'll take them to the half priced book store and trade them in!

I think Oprah is over compensating. We know you're deep and a thinker Oprah! Just pick a Nora Roberts book already!

Holli, the one I read is enjoyable....just really sub-par for NS. If you havent read any other NS it may be an alright ready. Just don't judge NS on those books. LOl - I guess we really aren't giving you any good reasons to read those two!
