Dana (dana_fredsti) | 115 comments Hi, all!

I'm new to the group and wanted to introduce myself. My name's Dana, I'm a writer, and I'm a long time fan of all things zombie. My first date movie was Dawn of the Dead. The original, which kinda dates me, but oh well. :-)

My new book A PLAGUE ON ALL HOUSES (number one in a series which I did NOT name...Ashley Drake, Zombie Hunter...sigh) just came out in eBook form yesterday. The first three books have been picked up in paperback by a different publisher and will have a new cover. Serious zombie fans, please do not hold this cover against me... It's being marketed as a paranormal romance (Buffy meets The Walking Dead), but as a tried and true fan of zombie movies and fiction, I swear it's not sissified! Got some great blurbs from both horror authors (Jonathan Maberry, John Skipp under his pen name Gina McQueen, Ray Garton), as well as some romance authors.... so when you see the cover, just pretend both humans are wearing SWAT type gear and that the female doesn't look like she just lost her contact lens. And picture, if you will, more of a zombie horde instead of the one lonely zombie dude in the background. 'cause I promise you that's what you'll get in the actual story!

Dana (dana_fredsti) | 115 comments Just wanted to clarify - A Plague on All Houses is my original title... Ashley Drake, Zombie Hunter is the publisher's title to cater to the romance crowd. I'm walking a fine line between two worlds here...

Rachel | 78 comments I think I might just try this because your description is cracking me up! I saw Night of The Living Dead for the first time at a friend's party because my date brought it! That actually doesn't date me...it was a DVD...

Scott Baker | 84 comments Dana,

Welcome to Goodreads from one zombie writer to another. The cover does look like its from a porn novel, but the description sounds cool. Good luck with it.

Rachel | 78 comments I love the quote from Maberry too, that'd make me give it a try. Maybe buy a book cover for it ;)

message 6: by Dana (new)

Dana (dana_fredsti) | 115 comments hee hee... Perhaps not porn, but definitely catering to the 'look! Another woman in leather pants with a tattoo crawling out of her buttcrack! crowed.... Thanks for the welcome, Scott!

Thanks, Rachel. Jonathan's quote is one of the things that may get serious zombie fans to look past the cover. Right now the cover is definitely paranormal romance. My one friend opined that perhaps the male's tattoo is actually made of Kevlar...

Ian Sandusky (idgs) | 59 comments Hey Dana,

Welcome from another zombie writer. I like the premise, but the cover is a little vanilla for zed heads. However, I think you're bang on with that Maberry quote - that could persuade the non-believers I'm sure! Hell, don't get too worried about it - worst comes to worst, print up some blood-soaked dustjackets and market them that way!

Best of luck, I know you'll kill it!

Yup, the cover is specifically to appeal to the paranormal romance crowd, which is what the eBook is being aimed at. The paperback will be with a different publisher and they're aiming towards the zed-heads. I could deal with the lack of Kevlar on this cover if there was an actual zombie horde in the background instead of my poor lonely looking hoody dude... Thanks for the kind words! Now to check out your link for Grey Dogs... :-)

Ian Sandusky (idgs) | 59 comments Enjoy the slaughter! Soon as I find out where the hell I put the charger for my stupid bloody iPad (worst investment of life, the things an overgrown iPhone you can't call on) I'll snatch up that eBook!

Thanks for the support, us zed-heds gotta stick together!

Dana (dana_fredsti) | 115 comments Heck, I haven't even managed to get an eReader, Kindle or iPhone... my Macbook is as high tech as I've gotten so far!

Can't wait to read Grey Dogs. Amazon, HURRY UP, damn your eyes...

message 13: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 78 comments I may have to read both these books. My family loves that I ask for zombie books for Christmas.

I love the fact friends send me anything even vaguely zombie related... like, I make you think of rotting dead things, guys? The answer to that would be 'yes.' :-)

message 15: by Ian (new)

Ian Sandusky (idgs) | 59 comments There are worse things to be known for! Zombie is the new vampire, they say after all.

message 16: by Dana (new)

Dana (dana_fredsti) | 115 comments And zombies don't sparkle. Heh.

message 17: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 78 comments Thanks God for that...I want a bumper sticker that says "My Zombie Will Rip The Face Off Your Sparkly Vampire".

message 18: by Dana (new)

Dana (dana_fredsti) | 115 comments LOL! I want that on a T-shirt!

message 19: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 78 comments I have actually tried to make it on the internet but I wanted "sparkly vampire" to be in sparkly lettering and the site I used didn't have any.

message 20: by Dana (new)

Dana (dana_fredsti) | 115 comments This is worth pursuing.

message 21: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 78 comments I actually just went back and did it with blood red writing, made a t-shirt and a bumpersticker. Need to go back because there is a way to market them through the website I used but I thought it would give me a sell option when I bought them for myself. I don't know if I can go back and sell that design without redoing it. Which I might do tomorrow. If I do,I'll let you know.

message 22: by Dana (new)

Dana (dana_fredsti) | 115 comments Oh, please do!!! I'd love to get one!

message 23: by Scott (new)

Scott Baker | 84 comments I'd love to have that as a bumper sticker, too. The one I have now says "The hardest part of a zombie apocalypse woiuld be pretending I'm not having a good time."

message 24: by Dana (new)

Dana (dana_fredsti) | 115 comments I want that one too! Right now I have one that says 'Dogs have owners. Cats have staff.' It works for me, but the zombies need representation too...

message 25: by Ian (new)

Ian Sandusky (idgs) | 59 comments That's absolutely epic. I'm so in. If you can get sparkly print, that would just plain make it. Keep us posted, I know some cats that would be in to pick them up for sure.

message 26: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 78 comments meh, sucky news. zazzle.com, where I made the shirts, cancelled my order. Something about copyright. It's not like I specifically mentioned twilight. Gonna see if I can find another site, maybe with SPARKLES!

message 27: by Dana (new)

Dana (dana_fredsti) | 115 comments I henceforth declare a boycott on zazzle.com. Unless they know something about Stephanie Meyers being especially litigious that we don't. But meh indeed! Good luck on the sparkle hunt, Rachel!

message 28: by Ian (new)

Ian Sandusky (idgs) | 59 comments Zazzle seriously played that card? Surprising, but stranger things have happened. Good luck!!

*Suzy (ereaderuser)* (suzyereaderuser) Just look for a local screen printer.

message 30: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 78 comments Thanks guys. This has been a hellish week so I haven't really thought about this project. I should, it'll keep my brain off everything else.

Dana (dana_fredsti) | 115 comments Okay, I just got the coolest blurb for my book from Roger Ma! So happy dancing and sharing!

In A Plague On All Houses, Dana Fredsti has created something truly unique in the world of horror fiction – a cool, hip zombie apocalypse novel. With crisp writing, a cast of memorable characters, and tons of undead combat action, it’s a zombie lover’s literary dream. When the dead rise, I’ll want the Wild Cards by my side.
- Roger Ma, author of The Zombie Combat Manual
