Doric was and still is mainly spoken on the north east coast of Scotland, where i stay, and Gaelic was spoken all overnot so much now.
I don't know much about Doric. Would Jamie have spoken Doric in the Inverness area? I don't know how similar it is to what my hub speaks, which is pretty much the same as in the books. He's from Glasgow.

Jamie (and others) spoke Gaelic, a highland language, and also lowlands/lallans (doric?), one of the Scots languages. Most anywhere in Scotland you'll hear Scots being spoken - mooth, hoose, dinna, canna mind (can't remember), dinna fash yersel. Bairn and ya ken (ya know) are mainly from the east.
