Michelle (michellezink) | 168 comments Hi, Everybody -

So I'm doing some very preliminary research for a writing project I have in mind and need some recommendations for an adult fantasy series. I'm looking for one with more than three books that has a pretty big following and a female MC.

I knew you guys would be the people to ask!

Isamlq | 177 comments Ilona Andrew's Kate Daniels series (Im told it falls under Urban Fantasy.)

Terry (Ter05 TwiMoms/ MundieMoms) (ter05) | 374 comments Depending on what you call Fantasy and for some this is and some it it not since it does not have supernatural characters but is time travel

Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon
BIG following and female MC Seven books

Michelle (michellezink) | 168 comments Thanks you, guys! This is a good start.

I'm looking for supernatural contemporary fantasy more than high fantasy. I did start reading Outlander but for some reason, I couldn't get into it. It felt like a romance novel to me, although it's very possible I was in a reading funk at the time. That happens sometimes where I don't like a book at one point and then go back later and love it.

Maybe I'll give it another try!

Arphaxad | 335 comments Perhaps the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs? I'm not too clear on Fantasy genre delineations, but those are meant to be Urban Fantasy-ish as well I think, so if that counts..? 5 books so far, fair-sized following, and the female lead is pretty awesome :)
Hope you find something helpful!

Wendy F (blessedwannab) Outlander is a romance, it's also a fantasy and a Historical Fiction... an action/adventure, lol and it even has some mystery. It doesn't really fit into any catagory perfectly.

What about the Sookie Stackhouse 'Southern Vampire' series? Or the Undead series by MaryJanice Davidson (though this may be more of a Contemporary Romance...)

Terry (Ter05 TwiMoms/ MundieMoms) (ter05) | 374 comments Whatever category Outlander fits into (or not), it is the greatest series I have ever read. And I have others I love a LOT.

Becca | 1608 comments The Sevenwaters series by Juliet Marillier is adult historic fantasy and her MC's are some of the best female characters I've ever read. And she has a HUGE international following. AND it's my favorite series ever.

The Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson is a trilogy, but the MC is also one of the strongest female leads I've ever read, plus the story is amazing.

Based on that alone, I'll give it another try!!

I couldn't agree with you more! Outlander is the greatest series I've ever read too. It is my all time favorite series, nothing else comes close.

You should check out this group, it's pretty fun.

Jack (siegaljonathan) | 1 comments I noticed a lot of you mentioning Outlander when I was looking for a new book to buy. Turns out it's free for Amazon's kindle app, if you were interested. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000...

Cool! What do you think so far?
I loved the third book and fourth one is my favorite in the series; the first and second were a bit slow for me though.

message 16: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I am only on the second book, but have heard books 3 & 4 kick it up a notch so I am excited. I liked book 1 and book 2 is good so far :)

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Only good so far? You are about to be escorted out of the cool club lady!

I meant I just started it. Geez. I don't think I want in your club if you are that picky. *simper*

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) *cough* Tairen Soul.

It's epic/traditional fantasy with romance. The main character is female. It is definitely adult style because there are sex scenes (although that's not the main focus of the story). And it's got a decent following - the series is 5 books long.

Lord of the Fading Lands (Tairen Soul, #1) by C.L. Wilson Lady of Light and Shadows (Tairen Soul, #2) by C.L. Wilson King of Sword and Sky (Tairen Soul, #3) by C.L. Wilson Queen of Song and Souls (Tairen Soul, #4) by C.L. Wilson Crown of Crystal Flame (Tairen Soul, #5) by C.L. Wilson

Well, I thought about it and you'd be kinda hard to kick out of the cool club, so you're fine. And you know you want to be in the picky cool club, otherwise all your books would be 5 stars! (not that there's anything wrong with that)

Julie (jhelligrath) | 3 comments Outlander Series is the greatest series I have ever read. I also am totally obsessed with the Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning. I am not sure if that fits into what you are looking for but these are my top two series. But if I have to pick Outlander will always be my number one!

message 22: by Wendy F (new)

Wendy F (blessedwannab) Yay Outlander fans!

Becca | 1608 comments Don't worry if you don't like it Michelle. I'm not a huge fan of it. I liked it, but didn't love it.
