Lydia | 80 comments I always feel I was born centuries too late. but yet my opinions are verra modern. So would I really fit in?

message 52: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Dizon (sarahd828) I don't want to even think about either of them dying. *sticks fingers in her ears* I can't hear you! Na na na na na na na! LOL

message 53: by Dolly (new)

Dolly Sullivan (dollysul) | 31 comments I like the idea that if she doesn't end with deaths, then maybe sometime down the road she can decided she misses Jamie and Claire and start writing about them again. If it ends with deaths it's to finale for me. I want to read the last word with the hope that someday there will be another.

Sharonh | 472 comments I haven't read Time and Again....I don't think. But back to Somewhere In Time. Elise (Seymore) was an old old lady who went to a play that Richard (Reeve)wrote and at the party afterward she came up to him and gave him a pocket watch and said "Come back to me". He'd never seen her before but couldn't forget her....so he'd asked someone who she was and found out her name and later researched her and went to see her but she had just died recently and her housekeeper/companion showed him a book she had read and loved that was about time travel. So, thats how it started...he kept researching her and found pictures of her when she was young and of course Jane Seymore is beautiful....so one thing led to another and he just had to find her....so he went back in time and she recognized him and the first time she saw him she said "Is it you? Is it really you?" So romantic! Wonder if we all have a soul mate in another time...that we might possibly find...if only we could "go back to them"??????Sigh.

message 55: by Sharonh (new)

Sharonh | 472 comments Tsk, tsk.....I understand Moni....I kinda feel the same way but S*&^ happens! :)

message 56: by Latinlandish (new)

Latinlandish | 376 comments I do believe we all have a soul mate, and maybe we can't travel in time, but we can meet again and again, in different lives. Reincarnation is a good explanation for many things.
Somebody posted here that maybe the different periods in history are hapenning at the same time, and we just have to learn how to access them.
We just know an infinitesimal amount of what the Universe is. If the human mind can imagine, then who knows? I don't doubt anything.

ME TOO! I'm getting depressed just thinking about it. It is going to kill me. I'm going to be locked up in a dark room for a week with a box of tissues and chocolate.

message 58: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments I will be too! It's like we're going to lose the loves of our own lives, lmao.

message 59: by Sharonh (new)

Sharonh | 472 comments Latinlandish, my Christian beliefs do not jive with reincarnation...nice thought though....but I was waxing romantic when I made the statement about having soul mates in another time/dimension...I don't really believe it is possible...but a healthy fantasy life is a good thing...I think....thanks to Diana Gabaldon! LOL.

message 60: by Latinlandish (new)

Latinlandish | 376 comments What was fantasy in not so long ago, today is old news! I think there are no limits for the possibilities of human existence.

message 61: by Sharonh (new)

Sharonh | 472 comments Different strokes for different folks! Everyone is entitled to their own possibilities I guess!

message 62: by Pinda (new)

Pinda | 144 comments So i just got back from vacation, I missed you guys! And boy it's seems i missed a lot of discussion.

I think we all can agree on the fact that we think they should die together, but I am not sure DG would let us off that easy.

message 63: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments I don't think she will... which will be absolutely HORRIBLE.

message 64: by Sharonh (new)

Sharonh | 472 comments I have that feeling too! I don't see her writing it the way WE want it to end....'course we don't want it to end! I keep thinking that I will eventually lose my obsession with Jamie and Claire...but I'm not too sure! Maybe when I'm dead and gone...LOL.

message 65: by Latinlandish (new)

Latinlandish | 376 comments I agree. It will be like Romeo and Juliet.
I don't know what is worse. But if I had to choose, I think I would choose Claire first. Just because she had to give up so much to be with him, can you imagine being there alone in the 1700's without any comfort, and on top of that the reason for you to have done the time travel is not with you anymore.
I say, let Claire go first.

message 66: by Pinda (new)

Pinda | 144 comments I don't think it's gonna be pretty either way.

I think we are going to have to start a new group after the book comes out about some type of withdraw.

message 67: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments I want to say Claire should go first, but then who will look after Jamie?! And then to have to read his heartbreak! I don't think I could stand to see Jamie lose Claire the way that Jenny lost Ian!

Then again, I couldn't stand the opposite either. I literally dread it...

message 68: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 31 comments I dread it also. I really hope they go together and I guess only time and Diana will tell

message 69: by Latinlandish (new)

Latinlandish | 376 comments As my husband keeps telling me : "Stop worrying about the future. You have to live in the present."

It is a woman thing to worry about the future...

That's why it was so hard to read Fiery cross, I kept hurrying over the details to know the future.

I guess Claire would be able to take care of herself better than Jamie. I don't know... That's why it would be better if they died together.
But if they don't, I know that whoever would be left would be gone really soon after. It almost always happens with couples that live for a long time together.

message 70: by Sharonh (new)

Sharonh | 472 comments Possible spoiler!

I agree Latinlandish! Jenny is with Jamie back in America at the end of EOTB and I just feel it in my bones she is gonna be trouble for Claire and if Claire were to die before Jamie...well we all know how Jenny tries to matchmake...oh God please keep Leghair damn her eyes in Scotland and away from Jamie if he loses Claire! However, I don't think he'd EVER go back to her after he knew she tried to get Claire burnt at the stake. Who knows though...Jamie does some really strange things and has some really strange feelings concerning women....and his honor.

message 71: by Sharonh (new)

Sharonh | 472 comments And yes Latinlandish! Couples do die soon after the other one dies...but mostly really later in life....and Jamie and Claire are getting there. Maybe they'll both have a heart attack having sex! LOL.

message 72: by Latinlandish (new)

Latinlandish | 376 comments Sharonh wrote: "And yes Latinlandish! Couples do die soon after the other one dies...but mostly really later in life....and Jamie and Claire are getting there. Maybe they'll both have a heart attack having sex! ..."
That was the best idea ever. You should send it to DG! LOL
I love it, love it. No matter what happens to them, I will always see them dying and making love at the same time. What a perfect ending!

message 73: by Wan (new)

Wan (wanwaddell) | 564 comments Sharonh wrote: "And yes Latinlandish! Couples do die soon after the other one dies...but mostly really later in life....and Jamie and Claire are getting there. Maybe they'll both have a heart attack having sex! ..."

Sharonh, gosh you are hilarious.

message 74: by Sharonh (new)

Sharonh | 472 comments Thanks y'all....I'm tryin to think of way they could die together....maybe DG will write it that way for us!!!!!

message 75: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 31 comments love it!!

message 76: by Pinda (new)

Pinda | 144 comments Sharonh wrote: "And yes Latinlandish! Couples do die soon after the other one dies...but mostly really later in life....and Jamie and Claire are getting there. Maybe they'll both have a heart attack having sex! ..."

That is hysterical!

message 77: by Sharonh (new)

Sharonh | 472 comments Hmmmm, I may be on to something....wouldn't be a bad way to go :) :) :)

message 78: by Pinda (new)

Pinda | 144 comments I am sure both of them (J&C) would be rather alright with it.

message 79: by Sharonh (new)

Sharonh | 472 comments Don't you know it Pinda!

message 80: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments Ugh... Moni... you just made me choke up. It'll kill me!

message 81: by Sharonh (new)

Sharonh | 472 comments What she actually said was "around 1800" and in Scotland. I think....I will check that in The Outlandish Companion....I think that is where I read it.

message 82: by Sharonh (last edited Nov 18, 2010 08:11PM) (new)

Sharonh | 472 comments OK,got it:

Outlandish Companion, Page 380 Q and A:
"Q. Where will the story end?
A. I think the Outlander books will end in about 1800, in Scotland. If this tells you anything, more power to you."

message 83: by Pinda (new)

Pinda | 144 comments I think I just felt my heart drop a little. Did anyone else hear it.

message 84: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 141 comments This thread is killing me. :( I can't stand the thought of them dying. They should just live forever.

message 85: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 31 comments that's why I am not thinking about it. I just want them to get back together quickly and if their deaths are in the book, it should be together and I really like the idea of them having sex as they go. but the options are really unlimited after you add in the bonus of time travel. who knows where it will go, so I'm just going to live in my world of happy endings

message 86: by Gwennie, biblioholic (last edited Nov 19, 2010 10:26AM) (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments Do you really think you would feel like the story had ended if they were still alive?

I think after all these books I would feel like something was left out.

I just hope it ends with them going to sleep together one night, after amazing sex, and then she can post an epilogue that says that they were buried together.

message 87: by Sharonh (last edited Nov 19, 2010 10:26AM) (new)

Sharonh | 472 comments Oooh wendy! Sounds good to me! I guess the reason I don't want them to die is because stuff happens to them, really bad stuff, ALL THE TIME and if she ends it with them on the Ridge living HEA...we will wonder ...will it really be HEA? With all the crap they have been through and how they are both "crap happens" magnets???????
I am one of those people that "crap happens" to and it will end when I am dead. Sigh. I keep thinking I will have peace in my life...but it hasn't happened yet!

message 88: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments yeah, I wouldn't be able to stand that. I'd want to KNOW what they were doing if they are still alive.

message 89: by Lori (new)

Lori (scholarlyme) | 46 comments A hint was dropped in Voyager, I think, that Claire had a dream or a vision or something where she saw Jamie's gravestone with all the names of all his friends and family on it, including Claire's. Claire implied that she had made that happen.

message 90: by Mairicat (new)

Mairicat | 53 comments I can see now that I'm in denial! Thinking about the pain of the one left behind just kills me. If it can be arranged for them to be together in eternity then I will be happy. I will have faith!

Honey I hate to tell you this... but when reading Fiery Cross, your in the PAST.

message 92: by Latinlandish (new)

Latinlandish | 376 comments Oh gosh! That's right, didn't even notice that!!! ahahah

That's to show you how much I am there.
Well, guess I am time traveling... :)

message 93: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 110 comments For me, Jamie and claire need to either be together - as in the end of the Notebook movie...and/or just end the book with them together and talking about their lives and love (and not discuss their death) BECAUSE they CAN'T DIE!!!! I love them all - At the End of the Bronze Horseman (The Summer Garden) Tatiana and Alexander are still talking about their meeting and their lives together - and still taking care of each other..and book ends.. that's what I wish for Jamie and Claire...never die, just go into the Sunset!

message 94: by Sharonh (new)

Sharonh | 472 comments Yes, and I want them to be really old and still gettin' after it! LOL. It is possible. My father-in-saw was 92 when he died and two weeks before he died he told my mother-in-law he was sorry he wasn't any good to her any more in the "beddin" department! And, they were both in their right minds...no dementia at all! I was so shocked! But now I'm hopeful! :) Real Big Grin here!

message 95: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (lchacha) | 59 comments OMG Noooo! DG please let Jamie and Claire live forever in my heart and mind even after your last novel in this series.

I have read all your books and it's wonderful when I reflect back to think of them as "alive". Having their story end with both being elderly would leave me with my heart smiling, not sadness.

message 96: by Heather (new)

Heather | 4 comments In Outlander their is a conversation with Clair and Frank Randall in which Frank says to Clair that he saw a Highlander standing outside looking at Clair through the window. Therefore I think that if Diana sticks with that then we all know that Jaime will die first......

message 97: by Ladyhawk (new)

Ladyhawk | 957 comments Interesting thought Heather. So how do you get he will die first from that? My mind never went there.

I see the ghost just time traveling, waiting, calling, yearning maybe... Until they are re-united again. Ok, this is just getting weird for me.

message 98: by Latinlandish (last edited Dec 07, 2010 01:00PM) (new)

Latinlandish | 376 comments Well, if I understand what Heather is saying, he died, became a ghost, and if Claire was dead already, their ghosts would be together in heaven! :) Since his ghost is wandering around alone, then it must mean that he is looking for Claire.
Maybe he went to the wrong time, or, since he knew what his life was like, maybe he was curious to see what Claire was like before she met him. Maybe he wanted to see what electricity looked like!! Claire filled his mind with so many facts about the future, he obviously became curious.
There are so many possibilities!

message 99: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments I definitely can't wait to find out about that ghost.

message 100: by Ladyhawk (new)

Ladyhawk | 957 comments I can see that pov. I just never thought of Jamie as dead though. I considered him more just traveling through time and space 'till he and Claire were together again. But the more I said it, the more it sounded like a 'dead' kinda ghost and not a time traveling spirit.
Many possibilities, like you say. And like Jamie tells Claire in DIA when they are reciting the blood vow again **Spoiler**

before she leaves at the end, the unspoken "as long as we both shall live" and Jamie says "Longer than that".
