Do you read free short stories provided by the author or other services? Where do you get them? What have been some of your favorites?

I've just started reading some of the shorts on smashwords.com Some have been interesting but nothing to rave about YET.

My favorite free short stories are the ones provided by Rachel Caine on her website. I've read all of the shorts for Weather Warden and really enjoyed what they added to the series.

I haven't read this yet but I'm sure it will be wonderful... And it's FREE!

Laura I read on Kindle for iPhone, so have gotten into the habit of checking their free-reads list. It's been a good source for series previews or first books. The "Stopping Time" short story introduced me to Melissa Marr's fantastic Wicked Lovely series, and My Soul to Lose introduced me to Rachel Vincent's Soul Screamers series. Right now, Diana Gabaldon's Outlander, the first book in that great series is up for free.

If you like horror/dark fiction/dark fantasy, check out Subterranean Press' online magazine. Each issue has short works by writers in that genre. It's a great way to get introduced to new authors. You can find it here.
