A really good book I read was called Flygirl by Sherri ________ . It was about a girl who joined WASP during WWII. It was really good!!!!!
I know this is an older post, but I thought I'd list some of the books that I'm reading or have recently read. All of them would belong in some way, great or small, with the WWII theme of this group: The Lost Wife — Alyson Richman
Next To Love — Ellen Feldman
The Violets of March — Sarah Jio
The Bungalow — Sarah Jio
Letters from Home — Kristina McMorris
Against the Wind — Bodie Thoene
Those Who Save Us — Jenna Blum
My Enemy's Cradle — Sara Young
The Kommandant's Girl — Pam Jenoff
Too funny!! I have read every single one of those except AGAINST THE WIND and am currently reading LETTERS FROM HOME!! What a great list!! My favorite of them is THE LOST WIFE!! Another great read is The Soldier's Wife by Margaret Leroy!!

I'll be sure to check out The Soldier's Wife. Thanks for the recommendation!!
I've just finished reading Karen Maitland's 'Company of Liars.' Inspired by Chaucer's Canterbury Tales it's about nine people in 1348 who find themselves traveling together during plague time. They all have secrets and a killer among them. It's a medieval style thriller. Very good though a bit of consolidation in the beginning bit would help create the tension earlier. I haven't read the books listed above nor have I heard of them. I'm American but I live in Ireland so I miss out on a lot of things that come out there. Are they published in the U.S.
I'm reading Ghost Soldiers: The Epic Account of World War II's Greatest Rescue Mission. Just starting it.Also reading Conduct Under Fire.
Hello all, I'm new to the group. I am currently reading One Eye Laughing, the Other Eye Weeping: The Diary of Julie Weiss, Vienna, Austria, to New York, 1938and I just recently read
The Nazi Officer's Wife: How One Jewish Woman Survived the Holocaust
both are wonderful reads!
I'm reading The Shoemaker's Wife and it is fabulous so far!! I usually read HF from WWII timeframe, but this one sounded so good I had to give it a try and I am not disappointed!!!
The Sweetness of Forgetting by Kristin Harmel was absolutely wonderful - WWII storyline along with modern day divorced mother and her struggles. I highly recommend it!!
Hi, I'm new today. I was wondering if any of you have ever read a book based in France during WWII about a pilot that crashes his plane. An American woman takes care of him, the town is involved in the Resistance, and there is a young girl who falls in love with a German soldier. I read this a long, long time ago, but I don't know the name of the book or the author. Please help me!
Found it today!!!! Clash by Night-Doreen Owens Malek. It was an accident that I found it. It really is a good book. Hope I can find a used copy somewhere...it's not available for my nook:( I thanks so much for everyone's help!!!

Hi everyone! My name is Stephanie Baumgartner. I'm an author with a fascination for World War II (take a look at my reading lists and you might see how deep my obsession goes...) ;)Anyway, I digress. I recently self-published the first in my series, Sophia's War, and it is currently free to download on Amazon (and will be until 8/20/13--Tuesday night/Wednesday morning). I just wanted to offer it on here in case anyone is interested in reading it and if you feel led, leaving me a review. I would greatly appreciate your input!

Thank you! Here is the summary, just in case!
Sophia can hardly wait to return to Germany to help her great aunt run the town library, despite her father’s distrust of the National Socialist German Workers’ Party. But Sophia’s not worried; she knows she will be safe with her extended family.
Unfortunately, the beautiful country that she remembers from her childhood visits is almost unrecognizable. Almost every man is in uniform, and everyone she meets seems watchful and secretive. It quickly becomes apparent that Germany is not what it used to be, and neither is her cousin, Diedrich.
Will Sophia return home when Diedrich gives her an ultimatum that defies her conscience? Or will her desire to fulfill her aunt’s wishes keep her in a dangerous foreign land on the brink of war?
i just read your comment stephanie and your book sounds really intresting to read. I usually go to the library and check out books but if you want to try your book out and see what its like i can read it i love world war 2 novels.
Hi Stephanie, I read your comment and you sound like me lol. I read so many WW2 books people have said I am obsessed. I also hate snakes and love peanut butter lol. Have added your books to my to read list. If you fancy checking out my book, Gracie please do so. It set in London 1938 - Gracie Thompson has a job, a loving family, a twin brother who drives her insane and a great friend. A chance meeting introduces her to the love of her life. But the storm clouds are gathering, Europe is teetering on the verge of war and threatening to destroy everything Gracie holds dear. When war arrives her family are split up, her lover is in daily danger and her life is threatened. Her father and boyfriend believe a woman's place is in the home but she is equally determined to do her duty for King and Country. She succeeds in her ambition to do her bit but at what cost? Will she ever see her twin again? And can she live with the knowledge her actions may have led to the loss of the one man she loves. Not only could he die, but he may do so believing she never loved him. Is she brave enough to pull the life she wants back from the abyss?
