Phyllis | 44 comments I finished reading Found by Shelley Shephard Gray last night. I enjoyed the whole series. Now I am reading Fatal Judgement, gasp, it isn't an Amish book. But I do like a good clean mystery.

Phyllis, Any author who is a member of American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW) is pledged to write without vulgar language. They have a website of all their member authors (500) at www.fictionfinder.com BTW, I would like to personally recommend my favorite author, Beth Wiseman. Beth has published 12 full length novels to date.

J.E.B. Spredemann (jspredemann) | 170 comments Phyllis,
Another suggestion is to go on Amazon and read through some of the comments. I think most people that read Amish fiction are Christian or at least have high moral standards. You can usually tell how the book will be by using Amazon's Look Inside feature. This allows you to read the first ten percent of the story, so you don't waste your money on it if it's something you don't like. Hope this helps!
Jenn

Welcome Grace & Sandra! The reading group is one of my favorite places to be. I hope you enjoy yourselves here.

I'd like to invite all our new members to pop over to Blanket the Globe under the Off Topic section. We'd love to know where our members live (within in the US -- state only; elsewhere just the country) to see if we actually blanket the globe with Amish fiction readers.

It's been awhile since anyone has added to the list, so if you're new please add your name & location. 8-)

message 381: by Melissa (new)

Melissa | 127 comments Hi, I am an avid reader and enjoy Amish fiction. I guess I got into it through watching The Shunning movie on TV, then reading the books. Of course the books were better than the movie. :) My mom and her friends read a lot of Christian and Amish fiction, so I've been able to borrow a lot of books from her.

I also really love to travel and read books about places I have traveled to or might travel to, so I love the Love Finds You series.

Besides Amish fiction, I mainly read mysteries (mostly cozy, but also non-cozy) and general chick-lit and women's fiction.

Oh, I also enjoy visiting Amish country, especially Shipshewana which is only about 90 minutes from my mom's house.

message 384: by Karen (new)

Karen Hopkins | 25 comments Hello, my name is Karen Ann Hopkins and I'm the author of Harlequin Teen's YA contemporary Amish romance series, Temptation and Belonging. I believe these are are the first YA books featuring a romance between an Amish boy and a non-Amish girl and the struggles they go through to be together. Since I live in an Amish community in Northern Kentucky, I have quite a bit of personal knowledge about the Amish, which guided me in writing the series about the fictional community of Meadowview, Ohio. Are there any Amish fiction readers in this group that are interested in checking out a YA novel of this type?

Welcome, Karen Ann! I've actually added both novels to my to-read list! They certainly sound interesting and I hope to read them soon. Welcome to the group! ^.^

Karen Hopkins | 25 comments It's great to meet you, Diane, Krystaleve and Caroline. Thanks for checking out my YA series. I'm excited to be here and look forward to hearing from you all. The books have been pushed in the YA market and not so much in the Amish fiction one, but I'm hoping to change that. I've got some cool pics from my neighborhood on my author FB page if you want to stop by there.

Jolina Petersheim (jolina_joy) | 38 comments Hi, Karen Ann! Your books sound great (love the titles!). So nice to "meet" you here!

message 393: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Hello everyone. I'm Rachel H. (I see there is another Rachel in the group).
I love Amish fiction and have for years. I'm rather busy reading some other books right now, but I took a couple of days off to read a new Amish one I found...
Surrendered Love by Laura Hilton. As you'll see by my review I enjoyed it. It was the first time I'd read any of her books. I look forward to checking in on the group and seeing what book is being read and adding it to my kindle - if I don't have it that is!

message 394: by Jaina (new)

Jaina Rose (ireadtilldawn) | 2 comments Hello! My name's Jaina (well, online it is), and I saw this group and thought it would be a great way to find some good Amish reads. I haven't read many besides the Shunning trilogy by Beverly Lewis and a book by Melody Carlson that I can't remember the title of (like the Prince and the Pauper, but with an amish and non-amish person). I like to read romance amish books, but I'm a little afraid about dipping more than a toe into the genre, for fear of them growing just plain old drippy or inappropriate. I suppose I don't really know where to start from where I am.

Hi Heather -- welcome to the group. I'm right there with you with wanting to get more books. My hubby has been out of a job for a year and a half. You would think it would be a snap to find a position for a software engineer. Maybe it is if you're under 50 and have a degree. So here we are, me working 2 part time jobs and scouring the web for free Amish fiction. I'd be willing to lend you things I've got if you'd like.
