Kristy (riverunbroken) | 250 comments I recently finished Sarah's Garden. It's a good book and I enjoyed it. I got it on my kindle and paid for it.

Wendy's Wanderings Hello I joined the group a little while ago and realized I never introduced my self. Between being busy and being sick time just slipped by. But I did peruse the forums during that time, but never contributed. My name is Wendy and I run an online travel guide for the Pa Dutch Country. I like reading, hiking and all things Pa Dutch/Amish.

message 59: by Diane U (new)

Diane U (djuseless) Welcome to the group Wendy! I'll be going to check out your blog since I am heading to PA Dutch Country in May. I have been there several times and I am looking for new, non-touristy, Amish things to do!

Dale Cramer | 2 comments Hi all. My name is Dale Cramer, and I'm the author of Sutter's Cross, Bad Ground, Levi's Will, Summer of Light. Levi's Will was an Amish story, based loosely on my father's life. My new novel, Paradise Valley, released in December, was on the ECPA bestseller list for February. It's the first in a series called The Daughters of Caleb Bender. Book 2, The Captive Heart, will be in stores in December 2011.
My website is dalecramer.com and there's a blog where I ramble occasionally if you're interested.
I'm new to this group, and look forward to hanging out with fans of Amish fiction. My father was born and raised Amish, and most of his kin remain so to this day.

Diane U (djuseless) Welcome Dale! I am one of the two moderators for this group. Please feel free to join in on any/all conversation here in this group. If you have any questions, please feel free to just ask!

You are also welcome to join in the monthly group reads. We are taking recommendations for Amish and Christian fiction books unitl 3/14. Please feel free to nominate one of your books too! We'd love to read them as a group!

I have purchased, but not read yet, Paradise Valley. I am hoping to get to it soon! I will also be adding Levis Will to my wishlist.

message 68: by Dale (new)

Dale Cramer | 2 comments Diane, yes, I would like to nominate Paradise Valley for the group read. It's different in some ways from a lot of Amish fiction, mainly in that it's inspired by actual events, family history. My great grandfather was the elder statesman of the Amish colony at Paradise Valley in the 1920s. It's going to be a really good series, and I'm quite proud of it. The whole thing is sort of a generational prequel to Levi's Will.

Rachel Brand (pixieauthoress) Welcome, Dale! We're so blessed to have so many lovely authors mingle with us in our group. I'm another moderator here, too. Do make yourself at home in our little group!

Your novels sound very intriguing, how special to be able to drawn on your own family history in your writing.

Please drop by the April nominations thread and nominate your book, if you wish. Our group reads are always so interesting when we have the chance to gain insights from the author.

Hi Dale, it's very nice to meet you! I was married to an Amish man, however he was not a practicing Amish but was raised in Pennsylvania and was somewhat raised Amish with modern privilages! He and his family told me many stories about the Amish and used a lot of the Amish talk, so it is very interesting to me! Since he passed, I keep up with his family and am still fascinated by this group of people!
Again welcome to the group!

Welcome to the group! I hope you enjoy yourself here -- I know I have. The group has been pretty quiet this month, but I'm sure with starting a new read tomorrow (and since the movie was recently on TV) there will more chatting!

I saw that you're in Alabama & hope that you've been safe from the tornadoes.

Rachel Brand (pixieauthoress) I love Kelly Long too, she's such an excellent author and a lovely person. She pops in here from time to time, as do Amy and some other great authors.

message 100: by Christy (new)

Christy (blissbooksandjewels) | 17 comments Hi everybody! I've been lurking for awhile, enjoying what everyone has been sharing about Amish books. I guess I decided it's about time I joined the convo! :o)

My name is Christy, and I've been on GR for awhile now. I have been a fan of Amish fiction for a VERY long time, and have read more authors that I can count. All-time favorites would have to be Cindy Woodsmall and Beth Wiseman, although Beverly Lewis has been known to write a good one now and again, too. :o)

I have a book blog that I've kept up for a little over 3 years now where I talk about books (along with reviews) and every now and then, share a little something about my life. Come find me at Southern Sassy Things and I'd love to chat with you! There's a recent post this week about Beth Wiseman's newest book, Plain Proposal, that was a real treat to read (and it's available on NetGalley, too!).

I look forward to connecting and making some new book friends through this group! :o)
