Kristina (argonianarcher) Hi all, I'm Kristina. In recently getting into the world of Amish fiction and am really enjoying it! I've started with Sarah Price's retellings of Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella and Snow White and am exploring more of her work within the genre. Needless to say, my list of want to read titles is growing faster than I can keep up. I'm forward to joining in on the group reads!

Welcome Kristina! We're glad to have you join us. You still have time to place a nomination for our December group read if you want. Pick something Christmassy that we haven't read yet!

Mary Barbee | 2 comments Hi! My name is Mary B. Barbee, and I am the author of the Amish Lantern Mystery Series.

I currently have the first three books in the standalone mystery series published and am working on the fourth.

Amish twin sisters serve as unique main characters, and the series is set in a small town in central Tennessee full of fascinating families, friends, and of course, villains.

Each of my books have surprise endings (hopefully!), followed by a sneak peek into the next book.

You can find ebook, paperback and audio versions of my books on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08...

Maridele (dellydo) Hello! My name is Maridele (Mary + Adele, thanks Mom!). I rediscovered reading when the pandemic started and Amish books became my favorite because I needed no stress reading. I am currently reading Beth Wiseman's Land of Canaan series which I can highly recommend but only after you read the Daughters of the Promise series first. You can read these series independently but the characters from Daughters of the Promise are featured in Land of Canaan. I love Beth Wiseman but have read other authors. So far I haven't gotten into the "big" name authors like Wanda Brunstetter or Beverly Lewis. I'm glad to have found this group!

Clare O'Beara | 9 comments Hi folks,

I have just joined and hope to contribute when I get a chance.
I live in Ireland so the Amish life is a different lifestyle for me, but probably relates a lot to how Ireland used to be in rural areas.

I love horses so books with horses on the cover grab my attention. I like the countryside depicted. I also enjoy reading about women's lives and choices or lack of choices.

An interesting trend is mystery or suspense stories set in Amish country, at least for me because I also enjoy reading mysteries.

And lately I have seen some fairytale retellings which use modern Amish characters. Those were really well written.

I have mainly read Harlequin Love Inspired and some independent authors, a wide spread of authors. My bookshelf on GR has a separate shelf for America-romance-Amish if you want to check them out anytime.

Love to get recommendations!

Welcome Clare! One of the ladies that started this discussion group was from the U.K. So good to have you join us.

Please nominate over on the group-read page something you'd like us to read next month. Look through what we've already completed over the years. I love getting new suggestions from folks.

LauraP | 7 comments Hi, I have been a member for a few years, but haven't read any books through this group. I am almost finished reading a monthly book club selection.

I have a question. Though the Amish community is Christian, not all Amish books have Christian themes in the book. Is that a part of this group, or it varies with a Christian theme?

message 613: by Nancy (last edited Apr 29, 2023 09:28AM) (new)

Nancy (truthfulreviewer) | 98 comments That depends on the author, really. Some authors are more focused on telling their readers about Jesus, His free gift of salvation, and our dependence on God, the Father. Personally, I enjoy those Amish books more.

Other authors seem to barely mention anything about Christianity, which is a bit disappointing, don't you agree LauraP?

message 614: by LauraP (new)

LauraP | 7 comments Yes, I have read more faith-based books on Amish fiction.
I look forward to reading more books through this group! Thanks for your input, Nancy!
