Please not i have changed he conditions of this topic(it's no longer word of the day). So now everyone can add in their funny words and definitions anytime :o)

I have a favourite word that I’d like to share but I’m wondering if anybody else has a word that they use a lot or even found a word that is just odd.

Please include any big long words you may know, and scientific names will be allowed.

when posting, put the word and it’s meaning on here(of if there is too many definitions just put a link to the definition preferably using the "define:" function in google).

Don't forget to add a sample sentence for explanation purposes.

Now here is the challenge bit. Go out into the big wide world out there and use that word (yes I’m getting this idea from Sookie Stackhouse's word a day Calendar, but hey it is a good one).

Then come back and let us know the results.

It’s up to you how many times you use the word, and it’s up to you if you wish to use the word in your normal vocabulary from here on but I just thought that not only this would be an educational experience but it would be a fun one as well (imagine the looks on people faces when you use strange but actual words).

Now for the word.
Discombobulate to confuse or disconcert; upset; frustrate E.g.: The speaker was completely discombobulated by the hecklers.

It means to Kiss. it also means:(of a curve or surface) Touch (another curve or surface) so as to have a common tangent at the point of contact.

message 18: by Adele, Moderator (new)

Adele (turtil) | 1767 comments Mod
that can be the word for today!
Dingbat
here is a bit of history:
originally a dingbat is an ornament, character or spacer used in typesetting, sometimes more formally known as a "printer's ornament" or "printer's character".The term continues to be used in the computer industry to describe fonts that have symbols and shapes in the positions designated for alphabetical or numeric characters.(hence the name of the font wingdings).

however in slang a dingbat is a weird thing, person or situation, a person considered stupid or foolish.

i call people dingbats daily, but i didn't know about where the word came from!
