Dawn (dawnv) | 4057 comments Has anyone read this one yet?
My library does not carry her so I would have to by it and I am on the fence.

message 3: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments my library doesn't have it either... bummer.

message 4: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4057 comments I am really hating the library budget cuts it seems like they by less and less books.

message 5: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments I agree with you Dawn! It seems that it is also taking longer to get books when before it would be on the release date they would be available.

It sucks.

message 6: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4057 comments Sad very sad!

message 7: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3122 comments My library has it ordered, but with all the cuts it will probably be the end of the month or next month before I get it.

It does seem like with new releases for me it will take up to a month to get them, and with most of them I am the first one to get them. So very frustrating!!

message 8: by Vivian (last edited Oct 04, 2010 08:07PM) (new)

Vivian (_vivian) My library doesn't have it either, but it does sound interesting. Not sure if I would buy it though.

Lori {Romancing the Dark Side} (romancingthedarkside) | 58 comments I picked this up at the bookstore, knowing it would probably be a while before I got it at the library.

Here's my short review:

Death has never looked so HOT! Grave Witch introduces us to a world of dark magic and secrets, where danger can be showing up to work...and Death is a HOT guy in jeans who drops in for coffee! This one was hard to put down, it's unpredictable, sexy and fun! A strong and independent heroine, comical sidekicks and a great love triangle make this a must read. Alexa Craft can easily be Rachel Morgan's long lost sister!

message 10: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4057 comments Thanks Lori! I admit the first chapter on her website has me intrigued however I am like Lori and on the fence about purchasing. In part because I am trying not to buy anymore books until I get through my TBR pile that I already own (which is so ridiculous I need to develop some restraint). At the same time death sounds like fun and a fun book...choices choices...

@Darcy our library is going through the same thing it takes a lot longer to get books and the wait list seems much longer not to mention I used to be able to keep books and renew them not anymore I can renew maybe 50% of the time. I think more people are using the library due to their own budget cuts, I try not to complain because at least they have not started letting go of librarians instead they changed the number of hours open - which honestly I really do not notice the missing 6 hours (they open later on Tuesday and Thursday).

Lori {Romancing the Dark Side} (romancingthedarkside) | 58 comments I got it at a discount which urged me to get it. I totally understand anyone that doesn't want to buy a book without knowing if it's worth it, books are not cheap these days. The library is a great way to "sample" a new author or new series, I've started checking out books I don't want to own but read. The only con about the library is that sometimes it takes a little longer to get a new book or there might be a wait-list.

message 12: by MsBeaglely (new)

MsBeaglely | 50 comments It just came out today. I've had it on my list for sometime & got it for my Kindle this morning. I know my library won't have it. They don't have anything current.

You know book discount is like music to my ears LOL

Nichole ~Bookaholic~ (nicholebookaholic) | 672 comments I finished this one last night or actually very early this morning. I really liked this book and the world it is set in...I wish we had a bit more info on Death and I hate that I am going to have to wait for at least a year before we see what happens next...

message 15: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4057 comments So in a moment of weakness I brought the book. It was worth it!

@Nichole I liked death and I liked the end.

Guess I am hooked on a new series!

I wish you had a nook Jess I would lend it to you.

message 19: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments It's 5.99 through the kindle, I've just been trying not to spend money. I might wait a little longer and see if the library gets it.

message 20: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4057 comments Same price for B&N which is good to know because sometimes they are higher.

I hope your library carries it! My library does not carry her at all and now I would like to read her other books...fingers crossed for paperbackswap.com.

message 21: by Irene (new)

Irene Hollimon | 130 comments I'm about a third of the way through. It's a fast read which I really like. She's spunky and because of her connection with the dead, she reminds me a little of Anita Blake without all the porn.
It's an obvious first in the series because all the side characters are question marks. Death is mysterious. Falin is mysterious. Her friend John gets taken out early in the story but he's not killed- at least not yet. And then we have the shady villains of the piece. Not much on them yet except they're big and bad and maybe her father is one...

message 22: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments I'm glad to see so many people are enjoying this one.. I feel like we haven't had great luck with our BOM's the past few months.

message 23: by Irene (new)

Irene Hollimon | 130 comments I just finished it. I really liked it.

message 24: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) Loved it. I hope this is the start of a great series. Definitely recommend it.

message 25: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments I ended up buying it yesterday and I already finished it. It was ended up being really good! If people are still debating whether they want to spend the money on it, I think it's a good purchase.

I liked Falin and Death and I really liked Alexis. I thought she was a strong character that still had some weaknesses so that she ended up being really believable. I thought the world building was great and it was definitely different from other things I've read. Yay, two thumbs up!

message 26: by Pam (new)

Pam I just finished this book and I loved it. I am looking forward to other books in this series. I loved that Roy is sticking around and hope to see more of him and the relationships she has with Death and Falin will be fun to follow.

Has anyone read her other series? Did you like it?

message 27: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments Pam - I didn't know she had another series, thanks for the info though I will have to check that out.

message 28: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 3122 comments Pam wrote: "Has anyone read her other series? Did you like it? "

I did read the other book, Once Bitten. It was ok, for me it suffered from first book syndrome, but it did hold promise. I haven't read the second one.

message 29: by Mariya (new)

Mariya (cr6zym0nkeyiz) so my library had ordered it but books that they order neva come in til like a month after the release date which i think sucks but i ended up downloading from amazon and am reading it now.

im 100 pages into it and it is so good. i can already tell this is gonna be a great series. im in love wit falin ♥

Lori {Romancing the Dark Side} (romancingthedarkside) | 58 comments I love Falin too Mariya..its a great start to a series! Death isn't bad either ;)

message 31: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments I have to say, I'm a fan of Death. But I can't really see their relationship going anywhere!

message 32: by Mariya (last edited Oct 14, 2010 05:59PM) (new)

Mariya (cr6zym0nkeyiz) i like death and falin both but i kinda think she will end up wit falin. i love you, falin. one thing for sure is that both these guys r very mysterious. god, this book is sooooooo good! XD

message 33: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) Death is intriguing, but more like a fling than anything else, IMO. I do like Falin for Alex, they seem to suit each other well. Can't wait for the next one, whenever that may be!

Jess | 3721 comments Mariya wrote: "okaiexz...so i just finished i loved it. wish the second book was already out."

Glad you liked it Mariya!

@Vivian, I agree that Death and Alex might just have a fling. I just don't see a future for them, seeing as how he's death lol.

Lori {Romancing the Dark Side} (romancingthedarkside) | 58 comments I think Falin's her man, well at least in my head he is..LOL

message 38: by Mariya (new)

Mariya (cr6zym0nkeyiz) me too. i also think falin will end up wit alex. i want the second one sooooooo bad...im so love wit that guy.

**possible spoiler**
i wonder if we'll get info on falin and stuff about the winter court.

I hope so!

message 40: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (sarah_anne) | 253 comments I really liked this book. @Irene It's funny that you mention Anita. I was just thinking that Alex is like a cross between Anita and Toby (Rosemary and Rue) with maybe a little bit of Eugenie (Storm Born). I think that this will be a series that I can really get into.

About 15 minutes after finishing the book, the possibility of who Alex's father really is hit me! Also, the love triangle is great - I'm a fan of Death...sorry, Falin!

message 41: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4057 comments I want Death to win. I mean he never gets the girl and plus they have a special bond.

Falin already has a steady with the queen.

message 42: by Mariya (new)

Mariya (cr6zym0nkeyiz) i love both of them. but i love falin more and its just a hunch that alex and falin will end up together. maybe i like falin more b/c he see way more of him than death and maybe and hopefully we will get more death in the second book.

message 43: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments Yeah I wasn't a big fan of Falin after we found out about what he really is and his relationship with the queen.

message 44: by Mariya (new)

Mariya (cr6zym0nkeyiz) i so want him to explain that to alex. that whole thing made the series more interesting!

Nichole ~Bookaholic~ (nicholebookaholic) | 672 comments And does Falin know who/what Alex's father is??? anyone known how long we have to wait for the next book?

message 46: by Mariya (new)

Mariya (cr6zym0nkeyiz) i believe that falin does knoe wht alex's father is. but i think he hire flain for the case you knoe but he put him under the F something something that stands for fae something something....but iam quite sure that they knew each other is fae. from the scene where alex sneeked into her father's office and in walked her father and later falin. but of course that is just me assuming that they knoe each other are fae. it is not confirmed.

there hasnt been any info on the next book that i knoe of.

I would assume at least a year.

message 48: by Enjee (last edited Oct 27, 2010 04:42PM) (new)

Enjee | 56 comments I liked this book.
At first, I thought Alex was a copy of Anita Blake (before she became a Ho). But there was enough of a difference so I was dissuaded from that and kept reading. I'm glad I did.
There are a lot of similarities to Kim Harrison's world...charms invoked with blood, etc. Again, the book was different enough.
I also saw similarities with Karen Chance's Cassie books...a hunky male love interest that does not wear underwear (Falin & Pritkin), a wise-cracking ghost companion (Roy & Billy).
The Fae being a part of the human world after an event that caused "the folds" reminded me of the world created by Mark del Franco for the Connor Grey series.
Its like the author used the very best ideas from several other authors and wove it into a new world.
I liked the result and I will read the next one.
