Paul Jr. (paulgbensjr) | 144 comments I haven't read that book, but Jim is just a stunning writer on all fronts.

Paul Jr. (paulgbensjr) | 144 comments I didn't live in the time before HIV/AIDS, so it's pretty enlightening. I feel like I need to know more about this.

Jim deals with this subject a lot.

If you like good ghost stories, his The Haunted Heart and Other Tales is really good as well as The Wolf At The Door by Jameson Currier

Matthew wrote: "...It's also making me realize I (and probably guys my age) need to be more familiar with the history of our community. It's a shame we don't..."

This has been true for every generation that has ever existed, Matt. I didn't start reading history until I was in my mid 40's and discovered how true the Biblical aphorism truly is: There Is Nothing New Under The Sun (Ecclesiastes 1:9-14)

Another way of putting this is, "The songs of our ancestors are also the songs of our children".

I think it is difficult to be interested in the past when one is trying so hard to figure out the present.

And now I have yet another book to get and read *S*

Nancy | 2838 comments I believe Currier also contributed to Unspeakable Horror: From the Shadows of the Closet which is on my shelf and may be one to consider for Halloween reading.

All his books look great! Which was your favorite, Paul?

Paul Jr. (paulgbensjr) | 144 comments Uspeakable Horror is most excellent! It won a Stoker Award and there will be a second volume.

As for Jameson...I think Dancing on the Moon: Short Stories About AIDS is my favorite. Haunted Heart isn't far behind.

Doug Beatty | 432 comments It sounds familiar... like I did read it... but I honestly can't remember. If it was before Goodreads, I think I am out of luck.
