Ok everyone, our new member Becky would like to know... "I love a good read...So if you would share ur All time five reads that you be great"

message 2: by Brandy (new)

Brandy | 6 comments 1. Outlander-Diana Gabladon (its a series but some of the best I've ever read).
2. Kiss of the Highlander- Karen Marie Moning
3. Anything by Karen Marie Moning

There are so many more, I'll wrack my brain for more and get back to you!

Carolyn F. | 54 comments Me too Brandy, Outlander's my #1.

message 4: by Tammy (new)

Tammy Walton Grant (tamgrant) | 214 comments Well, since this is Bodice Ripper Readers, maybe start with some Kathleen Woodiwiss:

1. The Flame and the Flower(the one that started it all); or
2. The Wolf and the Dove (oooh, Normans and Saxons!)

You could then try some Judith McNaught:

3. Whitney, My Love (the one everyone talks about);
4. A Kingdom of Dreams (the one I think is actually better)

or some newer authors:

5.Nine Rules to Break When Romancing a Rake by Sarah MacLean (an awesome 'spinster/rake' story); and
6. A Kiss at Midnight by Eloisa James (a delightful re-telling of Cinderella).

Both of these are wonderful historical romances (not rippers, though).

That should get you started!

My Top 5. I prefer some of the more extreme old skool historicals. Don't know what your particular prefs are...but these have great stories and characters and leave a reader pretty exhausted by the end!

1. Skye O'Malley by Bertrice Small
2. Forever My Love by Rebecca Brandewyne
3. The Flesh and the Devil by Teresa Denys (a bit hard to come by, but worth it)
4. The Black Swan and Moss Rose by Day Taylor
5. Stormfire by Christine Monson

Becky | 9 comments Thank you for all the great recommendations. Jennifer I appreciate you putting my post so that the rest of the group can respond. I was glad to see my all time fav "Outlander" as a top five choice from some of you. I'm off to purchase the ones I've not read yet.

message 10: by Annabel (new)

Annabel Joseph (annabel_joseph) Mine are Whitney, My Love
Fire Song
The Warlord
My Lord Conqueror

I don't want to say a fifth one because I'm still not sure what qualifies as a bodice ripper and what doesn't, but I really love those and I'm pretty sure they're BRs. :-)

The Karen Marie Monings should be at the library too. You just may have to put a hold request in. :) Totally worth it.

Kathy Anne- I see that you have 'Ravished by Virginia Henley marked as your #1. I've read and enjoyed VH years ago and for some reason I have left 'Ravished' unread and sitting in my tbr. I also see that you liked 'Sweet Savage Love' wich I loved too, so I think that I'll have to finally read 'Ravished'. Thanks =)

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) Hi Noelle,
Ravished by VH has been one of my top 5 for years now tho some of the others change. It`s a long book but I couldn`t put it down till I finished it the first time I read it.I don`t like History but she made it so interesting I was going around quoting her.I think it`s a true 5* book.

Noelle | 120 comments Good to know Kathy Anne, I'll move it up on my to read list. =)

message 21: by Tutti (new)

Tutti Dolci (tuttidolci) | 27 comments I love this thread! So many good recs! Some which I've read many, many moons ago (that MUST be re-read) and some which I hadn't ever heard of. I'm making my list (and checking it twice)! ;)

BTW, I'm thrilled that several of you love Stormfire as much I do. It's probably my fave BR ever.

Grace Elliot (httpwwwgoodreadscomgraceelliot) | 24 comments Oh, some lovely recommends for authors I havent read exciting to discover a fresh stash of talent.
thanks all.

message 23: by Vicki (last edited Nov 16, 2010 12:19AM) (new)

Vicki | 3 comments Here's my top 5 (Not in particular order)

-A Kingdom of Dreams by Judith McNaught
-Not Quite a Husband by Sherry Thomas
-Simply Love by Mary Balogh
-The Duke And I by Julia Quinn
-Honor's Splendour by Julie Garwood

Tried to get each by different authors. Most of the books were the ones I read recently except for Julie Garwood's. Although she is my favorite author (and my first historical romance author), I haven't read her books in... more than 5 years?

Oh no, I forgot Dreaming of You by Lisa Kleypas!!! Top 6?
