stormhawk I was recently on vacation, part of which was spent in Salem, Mass.

It was my first visit to Salem. I went to the Witch Museum, walked through an old graveyard, and drove past the House of the Seven Gables on the way out of town. This prompted me to grab my Kindle and download a free copy of the book.

I have finally finished wading my way through the most torrid and horrifyingly BORING piece of American Literature ever. (okay, so Hemmingway talking over and over again about it being a big fish is boring too, but in a different way).

I cannot for the life of my understand why and how this lame, overblown piece of endless exposition has become a "classic."

At least I didn't pay for the tour.

Gail Perhaps you meant "turgid" rather than "torrid".

stormhawk I think, perhaps, I did.

You're right. There's not a little speck of torridness to House of the Seven Gables.
