this is an illustrated children's book. The illustrations are artsy, not cartoonish. This was a hard cover book. A little boy goes into a fairy world. There is a girl fairy who takes care of him. There is a scene where he falls asleep in a big purple flower. This had to be published prior to 1986. I know this isn't much to go on, but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Elidor and the Golden Ball? My memory of the details is vague as I read it as a child, but I know it did involve a boy going to the fairy world, and there were high-quality illustrations.

Kristopher--did you try the "colour" Fairy Tale books? They are usually collections of tales, but it could be in one of them, especially if you find an earlier edition of it.

The Blue Book of Fairy Tales is one of them.
