This is not a non spoiler thread. Please be advised. If you do not want to hear and/or read discussions which may relate to spoilers, please stay on the weekly non spoiler threads.

This thread deals with the discussion on peak oil where Jared Diamond appeared on the PBS Newshour.

This discussion is about 6 minutes long.

Here is the video:

Please on this thread discuss the following and any other related topics.

What are the consequences of $120 a barrel oil?

What are the pros and cons of the peak oil theory?

Will technology be able to save the day?

Will the United States consume themselves out of existence. Is there something about oil which is different?

Has there historically been any other commodity that the world absolutely thought that they could not do without and/or because of their perceived necessity were forced to come into conflict over?

Are other countries like India and China going to be able to consume as much oil as America? Will India and China have to be different?

What are the benefits of decreasing our consumption? Do you feel that consuming less oil would be good for us in terms of health and foreign relations?

Is there something different about oil because it is produced and because it is used and shipped globally which makes it almost an ubiquitous commodity?

Do you agree with Jared Diamond regarding his peak oil theories? Why and/or why not?
