Carrella does something amazing with tension in this book. Charles' death, which might have been a sad climax in the hands of lesser writers, actually fuels a much great anticipation: Rebecca's journey to the revival site. Because she is unaware of the death, we have an entirely new vested interest in the ending of the book. How will she react upon learning of her husband's death?

Gordon (gordonhighland) | 9 comments It's like those books/movies that have a, oh, I don't wanna call it a "fourth act" per se, but ... more rising action still remaining after what one would typically assume to be the climax. Yeah. And in this case, there's a whole nother little adventure after that, even.
