stormhawk I enjoy participating in the FirstReads program here at

Or rather, I should say that I usually enjoy participating.

One of the first books I won was an amazingly pretntious piece of poop by Roberto Bolaño, 2666.

I didn't get it. The story meandered, implied that it might get interesting, and then wandered off on some irrelevant tangent. I wouldn't have minded a relevant tangent here and there, but this beast of a book (912 pages) just wouldn't get interesting, no matter how hard I tried to find either some artistry or relevance in it.

Susan (susanjoseph) | 10 comments I have to agree that Bolaño is so unreadable that I would not even go back to his book to give a list of offensive features.

Zachary | 5 comments I'm thinking about giving 2666 another try. I've got the 3-book version and I have to say I enjoyed the first book enough to keep going the second one though really began to drag. Description after description of the girls gone missing with little plot development got to me.

I tend to like long meandering books though so maybe I just wasn't in the mood.

Or maybe Bolano is over-rated :)
