Anthony (gerbs) "It is no more narrow to claim that one religion is right than to claim that one way to think about all religions (namely that they are all equal) is right. We are all exclusive in our beliefs about religion, but in different ways" (p13)

Christians are sometimes accussed of being arrogant for asserting a confidence in their position, but Keller points out that those who want to say "all religions are the same" are being equally confident in their postion.

This is not to say that any of us should be arrogant or superior in our beliefs (be they Christiaity or secularism), but that we should all converse on the understanding that we are all coming from a set of belief assumptions.

Anthony (gerbs) "It is common to say that 'fundamentalism' leads to violence, yet as we have seen, all of us have fundamental, unprovable faith-commitments that we think are superior to those of others" (p19)

Similar to my previous comment, Keller helpfully shows that we all have a worldview that contains a set of presuppositions. We must all acknowldge these and so discuss God, life, the universe with open minds, examining the various 'faiths' to see which one holds water the best.

Keller also emphasises that much violence has been done in the name of 'God'. He does not explain this away or justify it, but says it is believers being "worse in practice than their orthodox beliefs should make them."

Al Garlando (algarlando) | 5 comments "What is religion then? It is a set of beliefs that explain what life is all about, who we are, and the most important things that human beings should spend their time doing."
"Everyone lives and operates out of some narrative identity, whether it is thought out and reflected upon or not." (p15)
