Chrissie Ed, the three books of Sandra Gullan's trilogy really, really should be read together. You have listed the first. The second is entitled Tales of Passion, Tales of Woe and the third The Last Great Dance on Earth.

And here is another one: Napolean (Lives) by Paul Johnson. I cannot get the add book/author to work but if you search under ISBN1842126504 you will find it. I have heard that the author is quite critical of Napolean in this book. I have not read it myself.

Though not as enjoyable as the Aubrey/Maturin series by Patrick O'Brian, I enjoyed the Sharpe books as much as any Historical Fiction series I've ever read.

David Cerruti | 24 comments Ed,
Thanks for an excellent reading list.
There is also a 4 part PBS series (WGBH) 2007, Napoleon, available at some libraries.

I just finished A Tale of Two Cities.
It gave me a feeling for the class hatreds, and the Reign of Terror.
I thought it made a good prolog for the Napoleonic Wars.

Excellent suggestion. I encourage others to add to the basic list I post. For instance there's an entire Napoleonic Wars thread on About.com that covers most of the important events and battles of that war.

Here's the link: http://europeanhistory.about.com/od/n....

Steve | 1 comments A while back, I ran across a Science Fiction novel about the Napoleonic Wars. Don't remember the name or author, but it looked interesting. Any suggestions? Thanks.

message 16: by Parker (new)

Parker | 8 comments Bernard Cornwell has also written a *fantastic* factual book on Waterloo, called Waterloo. Highly recommend it.

Paul Collis | 2 comments I'd like to suggest a substantial short story for those of you who might be interested in Napoleon's dastardly use of the supernatural against his adversaries. Well, he was French. ( I'm guilty of blatant self-promotion here, but this thread does present a perfect opportunity. And the ebook is free.)

S.E. Morgan (semorgan) | 7 comments I'm going to mention my novel, which follows my great-great grandfather's footsteps in the 44th Regiment, through the Peninsular, to the Low Countries, and then to Quatre Bras/Waterloo. It's called From Waterloo to Water Street
