Have you seen any great new picture books lately? Or old favorites are good, too!

Mercer Mayer is my son's favorite. We've read just about every Mercer Mayer book that has been available from the library.
Dr. Seuss another favorite in our house. We read Green Eggs and Ham at least once a day.

Vicki (dragonshelver) | 35 comments Our fav right now is the Ladybug Girl. We have bought each book as it's come out for our granddaughter, Lani, the Ladybug Girl!

Britt, Book Habitue (britt--bookhabitue) | 368 comments Ladybug Girl is cute. Mo Willems' City Dog, Country Frog is great.

Our newest obsession, though, is How Rocket Learned to Read (by Tad Hills), which could very well be the CUTEST STINKIN' PICTURE BOOK OF ALL TIME!!

Picture book sales are languishing? Here's a sad article:

What do you think about this? I don't think we've noticed a downturn in picture book use, but it scares me to think that kids are missing out on this wonderful part of literature.

Lorna Payne | 4 comments I *adore* all of Russell Wood's Splat the Cat books. Splat is just so adorable (and he looks a lot like my kitten Smudge). Also David Stuart anything. One of my old favorites is Farfallina and Marcel, a beautiful story about friendship.

That is really sad. I think picture books are awesome for both the text and art. I try reading to my three year old while he plays and also before bed. It's the times when he can see the pictures and follow along that he asks me questions about the story. Also, a lot of the pictures in these books inspire my kids to draw amazing pictures!

Teri | 1 comments Thank you for posting this article. Good response as well as GREAT picture book recommendations. We are voracious picture book readers at my house and really needed a some new recommendations.

We LOVE the books nominated for the Beehive book awards.

Thanks for posting the CLAU link, Teri! CLAU is a great organization in which many librarians (as well as teachers and parents) are active. We chose our top 40 or 50 recent books in each category and then all read them and vote for our favorites to get the nominees each year, so you can be sure that everything on the nominee list is great. It's a wonderful resource for kids and teens.
