Mistclaw padded into camp with a mouthful of prey. He dropped the prey onto the fresh-kill pile and began to groom himself in the middle of the clearing.

Blackwater padded up to Mistclaw. "Mistclaw, will you go on border patrol with me?"
"Of course." Mistclaw's deep voice purred.
Mistclaw padded out of camp with Blackwater.
Mistclaw scented the air. "The territory markings are old on the Starpack side. We need to go renew them."
Mistclaw led the patrol towards the boundary. "What's wrong, Hollystar?" He murmured.
Mistclaw scented the air. "Yes......."He muttered. "What do you think it is?" He asked.
Blackwater turned around in surprise. "Hollystar! ow did you get here?"
Mistclaw shrugged. "She followed us. Besides, we don't need to question our leader."
Lovepaw sat down next to the entrance of camp and waited for the patrol to get back.
Mistclaw scented the air again. What is that smell? He wondered.
MIstclaw stayed behind to make sure no one was left behind. He ran behind the rest, making sure everyone got away.
Mistclaw ran as fast as he possibly could, avoiding falling rocks. "COME ON!" He roared at the wolves lagging behind.
Mistclaw suddenly appeared at Hollystar's side. He picked her up like a mother would a pup and ran full speed with her in his mouth.
Mistclaw stood stock-still. He was speechless and couldn't move. Half of his clan was gone.
Mistclaw bounded over to him. "Hold on!" Then with the strength of Whisperpack, he pressed his flank against the boulder and rolled it off of Pantherpaw.
Mistclaw began to help Pantherpaw with his wounds.

Lovepaw nuzzled her mother back. "I'm glad your okay too."she whispered. "Is Candypup going to be okay?"
Mistclaw shook his head. "She will be happy in Whisperpack."
Mistclaw bit his lip, waiting for his daughter's reaction.
"No! No! She didn't! I don't believe you!"Lovepaw cried stepping back.
Mistclaw shut his eyes and buried his muzzle into Lovepaw's side.
Lovepaw shut her eyes. "I'm not going to look. She didn't die. She didn't die. She didn't...."Her voice trailed off and she started to sob.
Mistclaw pressed his flank to Hollystar's in comfort.
Lovepaw felt sick. The tears came down freely now. "I-I miss her." She gasped.
MIstclaw almost teared up. But he was too tough for that. "Let's pray to Whisperpak. We'll need their help."
Lovepaw nodded. She was not helping her pack by crying. "What can I do?" she asked.
Mistclaw said, "There's no hope unless a pack finds us."
Lovepaw looked at her father. "We can try," she said.
MIstclaw nodded. "Of course." he padded away into the darkness.
Lovepaw watched him go. "Are you sure I can't help?" she asked Hollystar.
MIstclaw returned. "Well, it's blocked off but the wall of the cave seems thin."
Mistclaw grinned and nodded. He backed up as far as possible, then sprinted forward and broke into the wall.
