What music do you listen to when you write?

message 2: by [deleted user] (new)

Everything in my iPod. Usually corresponding to how that character is feeling and/or what that scene entails. Basically anything with the same emotional climate that is happening at the moment that I am writing lol.

Dude, same here. I make playlists for my stories and each character has a theme. And then I have themes for situations and suches.

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

I just play shuffle on my ipod and just write. I have a bunch of broadway music and a lot of different things. Nothing is consistent.

dude, broadway rocks!

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

I know right? I have Wicked, Jekyll and Hyde, Annie, Hairspray, The Last 5 Years, and a lot more that I dont' remember. Anyway, I'm kind of a broadway freak

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

Lol I'm not as much into Broadway. Though I have been forced by SOME people... *clears throat* but usually I find a song and the lyrics match my character's feelings/situation.

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

I wish I could find more songs like that. When I'm writing I barely pay attention to the song; I just don't want it to be completely silent.

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

I know what you mean! I usually do all of my listening to music outside of writing. That's how I brainstorm. But a lot of the time, while I'm writing, I try to find music without lyrics, so that I don't get wrapped up in the song instead of the scene.

message 10: by wolf spirit (new)

wolf spirit | 28 comments Oh, i need music in order for the story to continue. I ususally pick a music based on the scene for example if it is a spiritual scene i usally find spiritual music or if it is a fighting scene i usually would find music that fits a fighing scene.

Sophiee.†. WaylandMellarkTallynCullen (BookLoversYeYe) love that song its amazing!!! i love at the moment... (ma fave song changes dayly~weekly) 'where the lines overlap' and also a song from i think the album riot!! 'Thats what you get'

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

I really like Playing God by Paramore.

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

Indeed! That's also a good one lol

message 27: by JC (last edited Sep 03, 2010 11:19AM) (new)

JC (ainathiel) I think I said it before I have moods of music and writing. I listen to new age stuff like Enya and Deep Forest for fantasy stories. Rock, Hip Hop, jRock and other modern music for urban stories.
I have heard of Paramore but I have never listened to their music.

I am very old school.

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

Lol there's no problem with being old school.

message 29: by Emilie, La Scriba Bella (new)

Emilie (mrslestatdelioncourt) | 301 comments Mod
old school awesome Enya HECK YESS!

message 30: by JC (new)

JC (ainathiel) yup! I used to buy pure moods; Sometimes the best music for writing is instrumental sounds.

message 31: by Emilie, La Scriba Bella (new)

Emilie (mrslestatdelioncourt) | 301 comments Mod
I usually enjoy something with a bit more edge but i do love instrumentals!!!

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

I need to get instrumentals because if its a song that I really like then I forget entirely about my story and it ruins my writing flow.

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

Megan wrote: "I need to get instrumentals because if its a song that I really like then I forget entirely about my story and it ruins my writing flow."

Yay! I'm not the only one!

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

Nope, sadly. Today, I spent most of lunch in the library just writing and then I stayed after to do the same. I really like it. I think I might do it more often. It's just quiet enough, but not too silent. It's great.

Emilie (mrslestatdelioncourt) | 301 comments Mod
I prefer to write at night, usually to the tv show Golden Girls

message 36: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah, I wish that I had my own personal library lol.

message 37: by [deleted user] (new)

It would be amazing, for sure. I don't think I would ever leave. haha

I want a library like in Beauty and the Beast and then I want the beast when he turns back into a prince because he was SEXY!!!!!!!!!

message 39: by [deleted user] (new)

Agreed, cousin... Agreed lol.

message 40: by Emilie, La Scriba Bella (new)

Emilie (mrslestatdelioncourt) | 301 comments Mod
of course you do because (save the one and only James Hawkins) Prince Adam (the Beast) is the sexiest man ever drawn and if I had him my writing just might improve

message 41: by [deleted user] (new)

I always loved Aladdin though lol

message 42: by Emilie, La Scriba Bella (new)

Emilie (mrslestatdelioncourt) | 301 comments Mod
well i do too, but hehehe the Beast is just well....BEAST!

Emilie (mrslestatdelioncourt) | 301 comments Mod
yes...but now that we are thoroughly distracted let us mosey back on topic.
Does anyone give their character's a theme song?

I do for one, here are some:

Siren: All That I'm Living For by Evanescence
Riley: The Joker by Steve Miller

message 45: by [deleted user] (new)

Lol yep! But it's hard to choose just one...

Calix: "Otherside" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
but also "American Dream" by Silverstien...

It's hard to choose :/

message 46: by Emilie, La Scriba Bella (new)

Emilie (mrslestatdelioncourt) | 301 comments Mod

message 47: by [deleted user] (new)
