Lauren | 71 comments I wish I could remember the exact words, but an opening that has stuck with me is the beginning of David Martin's Lie to Me. (I read it a long time ago and gave it away b/c it was so creepy so I can't quote the line directly.) It's starts with a guy sitting quietly "holding her hand." It becomes evident after a page or two that you have to read this line very literally.
