The Catcher in the Rye and I actually felt bad when I finished reading the books because everyone seemed to put it in high regard, but to me it was just... meh. I thought that maybe I wasn't smart enough to get it, until one day I realized I didn't care, to me it will always be one of those books that are amazingly popular but to me they're just dull (also Twilight, it was the first book I never finished, even though I was in it's target audience, to me it was just plain stupid)

I don't think people have to be elightened to enjoy a book, but in my opinion the only book I read from him made me to not want to read any of his others books ever again.
I've tried to read various Dicken's novels throughout my life. I think what puts me off about them is the run on sentences.... by the time I get to the end of a sentence, I forget what point he is trying to make. Or maybe my OCD just gets in the way.More current hates: Angela's Ashes, The Lovely Bones, and anything Annie Proulx writes.

I agree about Dickens. If I want to be depressed, I'll watch. The news. But hey, Oliver Twist made a great musical. :)
